I'm only gonna be a junior next year, but my family doesn't have enough money for college and i'm not sure i'm "well-rounded" enough to get a scholarship. I was thinking about joining a commune or a highway tribe afer i graduate. Do you think it's a good idea?

i think that question is only one you can answer. i was actually the same way. ive been bouncing from job to job very unhappy. the only time im happy is when im in the woods. camping. or even going on a LONG roadtrip...for example florida to california and back. ive actually been looking into communes myself i just need to find the right one for me. every different one has different views so choose wisely.

You sound like me! I hate working. "Hard work pays off eventually. Laziness pays off NOW!" That's my motto. Of course I'm willing to trade labor for a place to live and food to eat etc, but why should I have to work 40+ hours per week just so my family and I can barely make it through the month?

Its truly not a decision to be made lightly. Deciding to become part of a new community means learning to work hard and cooperate with an entirely new group of people, and it can be a big adjustment. at the same time, though, u will have the chance to experience all these amazing things that you wouldnt otherwise. best of luck

if you want to do it, don't let anybody scare you out of it. I know that when I start talking about alternative lifestyles to more "normal" folk they just can't conceptualize how one could live disconnected to the urban industrial-banking system. Mainstream society is way too overrated.

there are always ways to get money for school. student loans, grants, etc...

with that said, if joining a commune is what you really want to do then its not a bad idea...just be smart about it and research it. be careful and look before you leap.
