Marijuana plants are becoming extinct!

I have often thought about this, even before i was a pothead. If the government destroys all the weed that it finds, what would happen if the marijuana plant became endangered, possibly even extinct? Would they let it happen or would they keep just a few in a arboretum?

 

define "the government". You understand cannabis grows in large areas of the entire planet right? Areas the government has no powers in?

And you're funny if you think that the drug czars actually want to stop all drugs. if they did, how would they get their paycheques?

 

I think the opposite, There are more strains now than ever, and there are more being made all the time. Plus indoor growing is becoming easier and cheaper too. Soon LED grow-lights will be perfected, and when that happens there will be a serious boom in growing. There are more seed-banks, growing info, and resources dedicated to cannabis than all other plant species put together. Cannabis will never be extinct as long as humans walk the earth, too many people dedicate their lives to it's cultivation.

Im gonna say human will die out before any plants..
oddly enough Ive been searching the wooded areas for some more Daturas and find them slowly disappearing, so im gona help them out a little bit by collecting the seeds and replanting them away from their parents..

 

I understand, with all this talk of a one-world-government it could one day get to the stage where everybody is being watched at all times.... I'm more scared of that.

Ive been planting this strange Japanese lilac too, it smells so nice. I found lots them along the river banks. Think it would be a nice shrub to put near my home.. The seeds taste like citrus. I cant make positive id on it cause its not native - in a few 100 years it will be.

 

The government isn't that efficient. They could never do it. And after California legalizes it this fall, I don't think there will be any push to do it.

 

1/2 of Californian redwood forest is marijuana now, I cant wait to have a picnic table made from hemp fiber.

 

I want to make my house out of it.

 

How could the plants go extinct by taking all of the already cropped marijuana? Or are you talking about whole plants?

If they took the cropped marijuana, you cannot reproduce a plant from that anyways.

If they took the crop they took the strain from that person.

All you need is 1 seed or start and you can make a million plants. And seeing that you can buy seeds online, and everyone who grows has a stash of good ones, how would they go extinct? This all makes no sense to me, as if I have 1 seed I will always have access to a million plants.

i doubt it

led grow lights while having their advantages are not going to offer any "boom" that you speak of

we already have lights that put out tons of power and do an awesome job

leds would consume less energy but the risk of growing is what keeps most people from doing it, not the lights

 

As stated already, there is going to be no push to do it, & even if they wanted to, they couldn't possibly destroy all marijuana. Marijuana is always going to be around, so there should be no fear of it going extinct. It can't happen, and won't happen, simply because more & more is growing all the time.

 

I have wondered if all this hybridization could somehow lead to increased disease susceptibility. Think potato blight, or Dutch Elm disease. Is there a seed bank somewhere with seeds from old Acapulco Gold or Panama Red frozen in liquid nitrogen, in case of emergency?

 

First off, the government (and no it doesn't matter where) is not capable of of wiping out every marijuana plant, even if they were, as others have said, there will always be people keeping it going.

However, if you are really worried about this, the solution is quite simple and not new.

Every third or fourth crop you do, make sure you have some males, and let all your plants go to seed... every time you go for a walk, whether downtown, or out in the country, take a handful of seeds with you and scatter them...

Imagine what would happen if every stoner who was travelling did this.

 

You and millions of other people would have to learn how to live without it.

 

They could never contain it.. theyre basically running on all cylinders as it is trying to clean that shit up already, there is a War on drugs after all..Its like the opium trade.. theyre creating the next generation of terrorists by taking away these peoples lively hoods, but they still cant make a dent on the production of it.

The only way I could see them doing it, is some kind fo martial law imposed, cutting all our rights as citizens, all for the sole purpose of hunting down every plant.. using the military.. whos going to let that happen hahaha

like the movie "the Crazies"... Even then some crooked Sgt. would filter some of it through and make billions on it.. itd never stop even then.. Even brute force cant stop Supply and Demand

 

this would never happen, but the thought of it makes me wanna smoke a bowl
