My school nurse just sent me home with a letter saying I might have scoliosis. I kow I'm not going to have to wear a brace, because I'm too old, but I'm still freaked out. Help me???? rettyplease:
you haven't shown your parents the letter already? and if it's not severe, there might be nothing that needs done, so i wouldn't worry about it.
She's a school nurse, maybe even a nurse practitioner but the diagnosis is not final - as said u "might" have. IDK what treatment is for that - ur 15 - a brace might still be in the picture. Also, I have slight scoliosis - as do a lot of ppl. The spine does not always line up perfectly straight. So, did the nurse say you should go to an ortho doc to have it checked? That will give you an idea of the extent of the curvature, what future problems might be, if it is treatable and what the treatment will be. Unless you are so bent that anyone would notice, not just the nurse, then it is likely not a problem.
Talk to your parents, have them set up an appointment with your doctor ask for a referral to a specialist for an opinion. Curvature of the spine is very common and in most cases people do not even know they have it. Usually it does not even get detected unless other issues develop. You are young and chances are that even just physio with posture awareness would be enough to correct it, if it is even an issue. Don't panic yet.
Yeah, you really have no reason to worry. Do some more research of scoliosis and you'll see that you don't need to fret. Make sure that you show your parents the letter if you haven't already; it's best not to wait on matters such as this. It'll only get worse with time, and it won't go away, so there's no point in not just confronting the issue. Worst case, you have to get surgery, but the chances of things coming to that are very low. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scoliosis (Note the part where it says it afflicts over 7 million people in the United States alone. You've nothing to be concerned about.)
Man you are so overreacting. I'm 35 years old and have had a touch of scoloeosis since at least high school. I go to the Chiropracter on a regular basis to get an adjustment, put a 25 lb weight on my right shoulder (in line with my curvature) on a regular basis (I'm a musician) and I lead a fairley normal life. To put things in perspective I work with quadrapalegics that I have nothing on. Here's an old saying, "Once I fealt bad because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." Peace Out, Rev J
just this pass monday, i went to my doc due to, being sick since last thursday. gave me paperwork to have blood, urine and, stool tests run. he also sent me to have an ultersound run on my abdomen run. once people get between ages 45 to 50 years of age the, odds of stuff going wrong big time goes up quite dramatically. back in february, after having an ekg and stress test run on me, my doc sent me to a cardiologist. sure enough; i have just entered the begnning stages of heart failure. males in my family, on my father's side, do tend to get this between ages 45 to 55 tend to inherit this disorder. i'm i scared about it? no. what is, is. i have no power over that. i'm doing everthing that is in my power, to keep the disorder from going down hill. the history of males in my family is, if we take action aganist aganist the disorder in it's early stage, we tend to live up to around age 80 to 95 with a very good health. if we don't take action aganist the disorder we, tend to die between our late 50's to mid 60's. i may die right now or, i might die 30+ years from now. i'm not scared to die. i have been through and seen too much and, i know their are things in life that are far, far, far, worst then dying. the way my life is going right now, i don't want to die just yet. i hear your scared and, i am truely sorry if you have this disorder. don't take this nurses word as being correct on the matter! contact your doc right away! your doc will want to run some tests and, they will send you to experts whom, deal with your disorder. you may even find out that, the nurse was wrong. it does happen all the time! good luck to you. you are in my thoughs luv and, i wish you the very best!
people live with it no reason to be so scared better make sure you have no cancer and yeah, gymnastics help to prevent it from getting worse
My friend had it. It was no biggie, if it's minor they may ot even do a thing! Plus, it's just a school nurse and in my opinion they can be real idiots sometimes (no offense)
