There seems to be a legend that Englishmen have bad teeth. Where did that come from? Is it plausible?

You know, I'd have said this was a bullshit urban legend until I started working in a factory.

One thing I did notice is it seems to be the older generations.

I have terrible teeth. My childhood dentist was a sadist and removed them and drilled holes in them and filled them for no reason and I refused to have braces and now they're just bad. I don't really care

I imagine it has a lot to do with victorian stereotypes. We all drink tea, are sexual prudes and have bad teeth. It is true many many people have bad teeth here, but it is also true of Americans too...and Australians and...well you get the idea.

I think the American media has failed to take into account the invention of fluoride toothpaste....

Unlike a lot of Americans we don't get our teeth whitened to crazily bright shades

otherwise our teeth are fine, thank you :D

I have always been lucky with mine. Strait as an arrow, white as well. Just have a pretty stupid looking smile, always look really dopey :p

I have heard that said on occasion and it is ridiculous.

I do notice that many older people every where (not only in UK) have teeth that were not maintained the same as they are in general today, mainly as oral hygiene has changed and so has dentistry. Years ago the solution was to remove teeth now there are more options.

Although sometimes I do think the scale has tipped to extremes in that things like corrective braces, whitening and capping are over used also.

Quality of teeth is a generalization of size of income around here.
