That I do not know, But i seriously doubt it at this time. I already know dozens of people who aren't already growing because they don't want to grow using HID or CFL etc. I think LED offers some hope because of possible advantages regarding energy consumption. Energy costs so much over here that indoor growers barely break even when energy costs are considered. Those who don't want to grow out of fear of getting caught won't grow regardless. Soft Secrets did a very interesting on LEDs and the future of growing. It was after reading that I stopped being cynical about LEDs too.
in support of leds causing a growing boom, there is one thing i failed to think about before. with the much lower energy consumption of leds, the risk of getting caught would be somewhat less due to electric companies not getting suspicious when your drawing 15 times what all your neighbors are i didnt take into account energy costs around the world too, as here in the NW USA energy is pretty damn cheap, but I could understand in places with much higher energy costs leds would make a big impact i guess i just wasnt considering all variables in this situation, the lack of a ton of heat would also cut down on energy requirements because you wouldnt need such strong (and therefore high power consuming) environmental controls
