I was able to de-shod and walk along a pathway that's just above the bluffs next to lake Ontario. Very, very cool. Unfortunately, the road that lead to the "beach" at the foot of the bluffs is covered in little stones (I hate those)...there was no one around...except a NUDE backpacker who quickly changed when he saw me.....and what kills me about the nude backpackers is they wear s*#@s! So here's me wincing away down a hill full of small stones and this guy has hiking boots on but he's nude. Bizarre....but, I must admit, the small stones kinda ruined it for me.

The naked shod backpacker would have pissed me off. Travel in a group next time....mug him and throw his shoes in the lake!!!! um maybe throw him in as well if he needs to get dressed cause you're there. Is this too extreme an attitude?....sorry, never mind.

You should have pointed at his shoes, laughed, and said "you're not naked"!

That's just it... if you're wearing shoes, you're just not nude.
Well, at least not as nude as I was today, when I was getting really bold while taking my barefoot stroll in my usual park. Since the park was deserted in the early evening, I decided to be barefoot all over and take a skyclad and barefoot stroll... Before that, I went barefoot (but clothed) :D on my usual Saturday shopping trip and the barefoot Saturday visit to my usual street café...

Oh, yeah, and before anyone posts "pics or it didn't happen!!" regarding my nude stroll... well, have a look at my barefoot diary, if you dare! (Caution: shameless full frontal ~*Ganesha*~ nudity on that page!)

Wiggling toes, not believing in shame,

went to a party last night and went 5m by foot home with 2 friends. I got one of them to go barefoot with me. We met up with some other friends who left the party later than us who drove to What-a-Burger, ate, and our friend with shoes got a ride the rest of the way home. My other friend and I ran the rest of the 1.5mi home! I think I'm going to train to run a 5k barefoot towards the end of the summer.

Over the course of the weekend I was blessed with going barefoot on the subway and walking several blocks around the city also barefoot. The subway tends to give my soles an instant base tan. When I got on the train a couple of guys gave me grief. Apparently my toenails weren't up to snuff. When I arrived at the train platform someone else said I was daring for walking on god knows what barefoot. While I was in the city last night I saw one woman walking semi barefoot. She had one shoe on and one shoe off. I guess she's trying the barefoot thing at her own pace.:)

Today I wandered along an outdoor mall and stopped in a Walmart, Gander Mountain, and Home Depot. Later, I went to a Target and then went to a King Soopers grocery in an indoor shopping center.

I had two interesting exchanges. Nobody said a word when I entered the Walmart, but on the way out a female greeter asked in a loud voice, "Where are your shoes?" I guess she was trying to embarrass me, but it takes more than that. I calmly lowered my sunglasses, looked at her, and said, "At home." She formed her mouth as if to say, "Oh," but I continued on my way. Later, when I entered Gander Mountain (outdoors goods), a female greeter just laughed and asked if she could interest me in some shoes today! I just laughed and said, "No thanks"! She laughed and seemed to roll with that pretty well.

To the park! As the dew set in it felt great on my feet. Then I walked back home barefoot. :)

There's a Chipotle restaurant very close to my house. I haven't been there yet since they opened some years back. I should go there this weekend (barefoot, of course) and have one of their monstrous burritos! :D

Even though there was a holiday yesterday (but only in the Catholic parts of Germany), I had to go to the office for half of the day (5-hour shift) - and since none of the big bosses were there, I left my flip-flops at home and went there barefoot, stayed there barefoot and went home after work barefoot. :) - I wish every office day would be like that.

    Wiggling happy bare toes,

The grocery store across the street where I shop at all the time.

I'm now banned. Regardless of the fact that there are no OSHA requirements and there are no laws in the city requiring shoes (the points the woman who challenged me argued), I lost the argument that they're myths and am permanently barred from the store...

I now know what should have been said & done, and, so, lesson learned here... Experience++.

Sounds a bit harsh. What did you say/do? I've had a couple of disproportionate reactions, but nothing that approached being banned.

Last night I took the subway into the city and met resistance from not one but two transit employees. When I got off the subway at my destination I walked up the stairway towards the street barefoot. Out of nowhere a employee came running up to me and told me I had to wear shoes. Later in the evening I was catching the subway home from another location when once again an employee brought to my attention that I had to wear shoes. I wasn't in the mood for asking them why I had to wear shoes, so the second time I just put my sandals back on. As I mentioned in a previous post going barefoot at the subway gives my soles a nice base tan and if I cant go barefoot there than I don't no what I'm going to do.:(

Yesterday was my usual urban barefooting and shopping day in the town center, where I went barefoot into the usual shops, getting some Nag Champa incense, then padding barefoot over the ped zone shopping street to my favourite outdoor-seating Italian café - and encountered one barefoot young man on the way... who didn't acknowledge my bare feet in any way (or perhaps he wanted to appear cool to his flip-flop-wearing lady friend accompanying him) - then went grocery shopping... just the usual. Aside from that one man, no other barefooters.

Today, since it has been a gloriously sunny Sunday so far (getting a little cloudy and humid now, thunderstorms might happen later), I packed bags with a blanket, towel, sunscreen lotion, something to drink (non-alcoholic, since the sun was already burning like hell at 8.30 am, when I left), a little snack to eat, incense sticks, a book, my MP3 player and no shoes :) and went barefoot to my favourite lake to spend a few skyclad hours there. My barefooting included the trip there by tram and regional train, a little urban barefooting in the central station of the neighbor city, sitting barefoot in a little coffee shop at that station, and of course the 1 km walk each from the little train stop to and from the lake, where I spent more than four hours, one hour alone in the lake (in intervals, that is), floating happily nude in the cool but pleasant water...
Only two other barefoot people were encountered: the first being a teenage girl in a group of three who had taken her stylish ballerina slippers off and walked barefoot, slippers in hand (and a priceless look from one of the shod girls accompanying her, as she looked down at my feet, and then into my face with a mixture of shock, wonder and awe...) and a young guy in the central station's basement, who looked like a regular soccer fan with a soccer club t-shirt, baggy shorts, baseball cap... and bare feet. Normally, those kind of people wear fashionable sneakers.

All in all, a wonderful barefoot weekend.

    Wiggling happy toes,

    ~*Ganesha*~

Coming upon 2 months of *almost* 24/7 barefooting. From time to time I get called to temp jobs which means I have to keep a pair of shoes handy now. But I have noticed that when I put them on, I get major charley horses in my toes. The pain is horrible and I have learned to stretch before putting on shoes :p

Iowa, I too am not totally barefoot but mostly am. At some restos or bars I need to resort to flips to get in to meet and hang with friends. Which is ok but some restos are a bit more uptight and I have to resort to deck shoes for an hour. I don't get charley horses but if I put those shoes on it feels sooo weird. I wonder if (for my sensations at least) its a totally physical thing or there's some psych to it, in a way. It feels so natural to suddenly realize you're driving someplace and you're barefoot and have nothing with you. It's like oh yeah well whatever. Which I'm sure you have probably experienced many many times.

You made me go look at a calendar and I am at day 85 of like maybe 98% barefootedness (or 90%....whatever). This is not a brag compared to you....it just got warm really early in NJ (in March). Our determination for this experiment is probably the same. For part of March and April it did hit rainy 50's for days at a time. I had just determined that since I went and started, stopping wud suck. And, tho this is def not a competition, it's all of us trying to live a lifestyle in a more major way than most peeps, there are major pracitioners on these threads....like Jaime. But it is all fun. And my hat is off to all of us. Going barefoot everywhere we can rules.....mike
