Okay, I just got into sewing...so I'm not very good. So far I've made a tote and an apron shirt. Now I'm really interested in trying to make this skirt...I think it's called a pixie or faerie skirt. Anyway, I can't find any patterns ANYWHERE on the net....Could someone give me some instructions or point me in the direction of a pattern? The skirt looks like this:

It looks to me like a fitted skirt from waist to hips, then a circle added, cut with a zigzag edge, with scraps and dangly bits added in the seam...

You could make it easily, if you need a pattern, just use a fitted skirt pattern and cut it off at the hip for your base.

Thanks! I always have problems witht the idea of making skirts/dresses larger at the bottom than the top. So the solution is to add another circle?

it is a nifty looking thing, but i would get so frustrated by making a patchwork circle. if you do the circle skirt with the zigzag/ handkerchief edge, you could lay in the other pieces as you sew it into the fitted part. so in the pic it would be that lavender as the circle skirt with all the other fabrics being worked into the waist band like insetting a piping or tie cord. i dont know if that makes sense ;)

The notion is to do a circle skirt, but use layered squares or diamonds instead of a circle. This gives the points. Another option is to do a wrap-around skirt using diamond shapes kinda like this:

Bit trickier, and requires some gather to deal with the fact that it ends up with a slightly odd shaped(sorta octagonal) waist. But very pretty. Then you can add random pieces as accent. Couldn't find a tute for this, and this is just a pic I drew up quick in paint. :p

The one above seems to be a sort of blend, and uses patchwork quilting to make the squares. Oh, and the whatthecraft link there talks about doing that sort of waist. Good luck.

Hi, I'm Katie and I'm obsessed with sewing. I have alot to learn still but I've been selling hippie clothes since 2007 and sewed hundreds of items. In my opinion, this skirt is very DIY. Alot of seamstresses start out with a pattern then as the get more savvy make patterns of their own like this one. Message me if you want me to walk you through a tutorial of something like this. Have a great day~

Back in the day I had a craft book for making clothing out of bandanas and it was a very similar panel shape like the one you drew up. Very cool book, wish it didn't get stolen.
And thank you soooo much for the whatthecraft link awesome site.

Also, I'm the world's laziest, sloppiest quilter, if I can pull of reasonable patchwork so can you ladies. Don't let it intimidate you, thinking you're sewing together each individual square or triangle, there's tons of shortcuts. Mostly you're sewing long strips together, cutting them apart and sewing them back together again. -Using a fabric pizza cutter. The Web is awash with quilting sites, or google under strip quilting or speed piecing.

    Thanks!

Eh.. looks like a wrap around skirt base.. with a little extra around the closed end to add flare... with scraps and stuff sew onto it, maybe a bit of trim. The easy way if you want to achieve the similar style is to find a skirt that fits you well at a thrift store and add onto it with things of you're choosing. People already posted some good links and advice, so I don't think I'll be able to dig through much more...

but what I can do is post a picture of similar notion.. eh, a pixie dress that I finished two months ago for my travel partner, I used a dress we dug out of the trash for the base, and I added to it with scrap clothes. Maybe give ya some inspiration in what I mean. Took about 6 hours.. sewing scrap piles together and then layering them on from bottom to top waist.. few scrap pockets from pants here and there. Top half is overstitching, to create kind of a padded look.. a Gibbous Fashions(neat clothes.. but stuck up folks(most of em)) trick that I picked up along my travels from them.

There's even a wash clothe in there.. it had pretty dragon/sun flowers on it... so I had to add it.

Shrug, to me it looks like it's almost certainly a 'handkerchief' skirt, not a wrap skirt as the base. Like a circle skirt only with 2 squares overlaid, instead of a circle.

Also, doesn't really look too patchworky, just like it has patches sewn on.

Oh, and, crazy cool dress SandDollar.
