Hey all just wondering if anyone could help me or if anyone has done this. Iv had my dreads for like nearly 3 years they are about 1/2 way down my back and starting to get heavy! If i tie them up in the wrong place i get a sore neck and headaches. They are sweet if i have them down but i cant leave them down for work. I really dont wanna cut them off cause iv worked so hard to get them to wear they are but was considering cutting them shorter to relive so of the heaviness. Just wondering if anyone has done this, will they look stupid cause they are cut and have blunt ends?? Im scared to do it and then regret it!!
    Cheers Vanessa

I remember one girl here cut hers to about shoulder length, and they did end up with blunt tips. I'd kill for long dreads though :p
You could possibly taper them in the way you cut then, instead of straight across, to make it look more natural. I'm not sure how it would come out, if I were you I would test methods of cutting on one or two dreads and see how they turn out.

Also I'd really like to see a picture of your dreads :)

i wish mine were long enough that i could think about cutting them hahaha. fucking shrinkage.

anyways, maybe if you comb out the bottoms of where you cut them :S might look less blunt, like only comb a half inch or so up. then again if you like the blunted tips you'd probably hate this idea hahah, only for the wispy ends :D

I'd combine the taper suggestion with the combing out of the ends suggestion.

To get a good taper, I wouldn't use scissors. Use a straight blade

cool yea i was thinking of trying to cut the ends to make them look tapered and wispy how they are now. Now i just gotta grow some balls and chop them!! its like whats the worse that can happen, if they look to short, they will grow my-hair grows pretty fast.

well i did it, cut them off into a bob. Took me ages to get up the courage to do it haha. My neck feels so much better all ready! Have left the ends blunk but i think they might taper a bit on their own so will leave them for a while to see what happens.

Totally cut them to your shoulder. You won't regret it and if you do, least you didn't cut them off entirely.

I plan on doing this when/if mine get too heavy but I'll comb the ends to make wispies

edit didn't see you'd already cut. Looks cute!

    Why all the blunt hate?

Some of us can't help our blunt tips...

    Plus, I like blunts.

Never been a fan of the intense blunties. Theres one guy in my class who has obviously been to a hair salon to get locks, And those bad boys are blunted to death and look icky full of wax. But hey, show me yos dreads bro and maybe you'll change my mind

Well if they're getting too heavy to tie up you could try cutting them a bit until you find a comfy length. Could you maybe stick them in a tam instead tho? Or help balance the heavyness by tying a bandana in the back? It just seems like a shame to cut them but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

i dont really mind blunt ends i just didnt want them to look cut. the ends have already started to go wispy, proberly cause im always playing with them and shit. Its a nice change from having long hair to short hair but still getting to keep my dreads - dont think i could ever fully chop them off.

Wut, a chance to show off? :D

    You're post #5, I think you saw em' :p

I don't know if you can see it well in any of my pictures, but my whispy ends get sort of zig-zagged and then eventually just.... blunt.... Lathering heavily when washing speeds this up lots, but it happens anyway in my hair. It's part of the looping physics of my hair. Though I do also have a few that are not whispy till the very end, but dread down a taper to a point... I got all sorts...

And they ain't no salon job, no head candles here :D

OOOOOooOhhhh you're 'that' guy! Haha yeah, those are cool g banga. I guess when i hear the word blunt, i think of big intentionally done candle stick hair sausages!

In that case maybe i've got a few blunties! I think mine do the same to be honest! They curl, dread like that then blunt off! Besides the one with little hair tails on them. Crab claws as Glen called them haha :D

BLUNTIES ROCK! I've always thought so too :p
