Are you still looking into this? Or did you jump into something foolish? :D

If you still need any help, ask... If you're not a gamer, you could knock some money off anything by going linux.

When I first started putting computers together myself, I just used TigerDirect, and read the stats carefully and made sure it was all compatible.

    Worked fine.

From the sounds of it you may not even need to build a customized PC for those kind of specs. Whatevers cheaper I suppose.

Good processor choice for a non-gamer.

If you haven't bought that yet, PLEASE don't buy a 160gb HD. For hardly any more, IF any more, you can get one that is literally 10x larger, look at 500gb+ HD's, maybe 1TB+.

1TB drives can be had easily for $70.

    I got my 1.5TB for $70, but it's only 5400RPM.

That's what I was thinking. I bought my 500gb bout 3 years ago, and then a year later, i remember 1tb's being the same price my 500gb was....

And whenever/if ever you don't want to pay for 'doze, I can give you any *nix help you need.... Just say the word. It will be much safer, stabler, free, and more fun... (IMO)

I think their prices are gonna drop out once SSD's start becoming more mainstream.

I'm quite content with 1.5GB though. Should be more than enough for an average end user.

DON"T BUY OEM BARE HARD DRIVES !!!!!!!!!!!!
They are very rarely packed properly and have a higher fail rate than retail boxed.

Go to Best Buy and get a Western Digital 1tb Caviar Black Hard drive, $99. Best price available for retail box. Well worth it.
Best class of hard drives available for the consumer market, only thing better are the enterprise class of drives designed for server banks.
WD Caviar Black drives also come with a five year warranty, best out there.

Also make use of the reviews on Newwegg.com, very helpful. Also overall Newegg has the best prices to be found.
Stick with the Gigabyte board, best in the business. I have only seen one Gigabyte board fail in over 17 years of dealing with computers, and that was due to the plague of bad capacitors that effected every motherboard manufacturer around the world.

!!!STAY AWAY FROM OEM BARE DRIVES FROM MAIL ORDER COMPANIES!!!
!!! IT'S A GAMBLE AS TO HOW LONG THEY LAST AND HOW THEY WERE TREATED DURING SHIPPING!!!
