I have to fucking know . Did Jimi record the solo normal, then learn it backwards, then recorded it the new way, then reverse it on tape? Or did he simply take a really simple solo and just reverse it? I've listened to the solo backwards, and it loses everything that makes it a great solo and turns it into... well... something I would play .
I'm pretty sure he turned the tape backwards, it doesn't sound natural enough for someone to play it but this is Jimi we are talking about CMAS is actually my favourite song of his.
that is a question for eddie kramer, jimi's studio engineer. Either way, Jimi was able to play his solos live as it sounded on the record, as can be heard in his live performances of the song Are You Experienced. He clearly plays live the solo as it sounds on the album for that song, however its common knowledge that jimi reversed the taped solo in the studio.
