Damn, I had the title somewhere but now I can't find it!

Call me dumb if you need but what do you mean by..."as title"?

Ugh...I doubt my fingers have the dexterity to type it all out.

Two suggestions...go to www.welcomehome.org and read all about Rainbow or, better yet, attend a gathering.

Ooo that first paragraph (in the link) sounds like me! Though I'm not sure about what the alternative lifestyles refers to - after all, as I've noticed on here, even liberal people seem to get riled at certain things that don't click with their own way of thinking

I agree, go to Welcomehome. org

    it is an individual choice.

We are as Hopi prophecy says.

You, and any one or everyone.

What is a rainbow made up of, many colors.

    Again visit welcomehome.

    Nuff said,,,,

What these folks are saying is that it's hard to describe the essence of the "family" without experiencing it for yourself, but I think we can give you the general idea. It's an exceptionally diverse collection of people who are mostly influenced by hippie culture. "Rainbow" has nothing to do with gay, and a lot to do with hippie. The main thing these folks do is gather on public lands, usually National Forests, nationally ever year around the Fourth to Seventh of July, and regionally at various other times during the year. The central event, on the Fourth of July, is a prayer for world peace. There's no formal leadership or organization, although obviously leadership functions are being performed by volunteer "focalizers" and long-time members called elders (anybody anybody else looks up to). It's been described as "the best non-organization I've ever been a non-member of". Anybody with a belly button is considered a member and is welcome. Decisions are made by consensus of the Council, consisting of whoever happens to be present at the council when a decision is made--and anybody is free to attend. It's been in existence since 1971 (counting Vortex), and there are now second and third generation members. The site will give you more info. Did I get it right?

I've only been to different regionals so far (so dont be too harsh if i botch this), but if I had to do the dictionary version.....

A nomadic non-centralized commune, born from hippie counterculture, with no official leaders or rules of admittance, that exists primarily in national forests.

Its a completely different way of life, and its definitely changed mine.

I can't wait to get back into the woods and then on the road!

    Hey Snark, cool screen name...
2 other events in my life have have changed my outlook as much as my first Gathering (NV '89)...the first time I had sex, and the birth of my daughter.

But what, exactly, do we do, out there in those woods?

I'm usually too busy doing it to take notes, but I sure wish someone would.
