is anyone else being eaten away inside at the thought of what has been going on in the gulf with the whole BP oil spill disaster. with oil spewing out continuously like a geyser the amount spilled has surpassed the problems created by Exxon. President Obama is putting holds on future leases and plans to drill, but I don't know about you guys...i want this stopped. i'd rather suffer with out gas (i may regret these words later) but our environment, our mother Gaia, needs to be preserved. she outdates us billions of years and we walk all over her. i am sickened that this hasn't been plugged yet, and am even more concerned that the plugging will not work effectively. eventually enough pressure would build up to bust the cement and mud...wouldn't you think? i am no physics guru. this is going to be irreversible, and i for one am becoming depressed about how we treat our environemnt. likewise i hope that ocean oil drilling will be banned in the future...but then again i have always been all about the environment...
The U.S. government has sold out to the oil, gas, coal, and nuclear industries. Perhaps once upon a time, it made sense to encourage those industries, but now the only industries that should be subsidized with our tax dollars are the non-polluting ones. One good thing that may come of the BP disaster is that the people might vote out all the incumbents who have sold their souls for campaign money.
humans have become to depend on oil. so sad. people need to support alternative transportation. i ride my bike everywhere, i really don't understand why more people don't. laziness? "inconvenience"? out of shape? i'm too cool to ride a bicycle? i got all this stuff i need to haul around? lame excuses.. you poke holes into an oil pockets.. something is going to fuck up sooner or later... and now it has. fix it!
Goodvibes 83: You're not the only one upset, and, geez, I bet you don't like being right that the cement plan didn't work. The damage that is being done and that will be done is more than I can currently imagine. A large portions of our waters will likely die from it (okay, water itself doesn't die, but you get my meaning? stop supporting life, etc.) Sunfighter: Not just the American government. Question, would this not be a disaster on the scale of the Haitian one? Or does it count less because it effects fewer humans... more animals and plants and ecosystems? Now, I suspect most folks on these forums would suggest that this is worse... but... does anyone know of any international disaster relief movements that are happening for this? Are any other governments working to help? Boogabaah: Being mid down-shift, myself, I can see both sides of this problem. I am complicit in it, obviously. I have a car and need it. My life is changing, but has these big hurdles... My source of income is 1 hour away from the place that I could afford to buy. That said, I am looking to break my gasoline addiction. Like any addiction, it's hard. The plan: off the grid solar/wind energies, solar water heat, wood hosue heat, and - the kicker - for transportation, a mixture of bike, horse and cart, and something conventional until we can get something that runs off gas. I can understand your anger, though. I know many who don't care about their impact and do not intend to change. The only way I see the world changing off oil is for enough individuals to stop its demand by going alternative. If we could get to a usage that is sustainable with ethanol production, that would be a start. Not an end, but a start.
I am all for this shit stopping the day before yesterday but i would like to make a point, well or at least a theory of mine. However first I would like to bring your attention that gas prices are dropping...... Now I am so confused by this. With the USA being as dependent on oil as it is don't you think gas prices would be going through the roof. So any who this is my theory. They are letting this thing leek into the ocean for as long as they can get away with.... Latest News Updates and i just saw this last night. Its not going to stop till April. Fucking April. So Huricans will make it rain oil across the bed basket of America..... I know The clouds won't make it that far but it will rain along the coast line. But what if the clouds make it that far, what would happen to the soil are crops are going to be planted in. Am I the only one that thinks this..... So enough with the ranting tangents and I do apologize for that just my style of writing. Once they do have it plugged up and summer is at its highest swing when everyone is looking forward to vacation gas prices will reach a never before seen high. Now i hope that this never happens and I hope I'm so wrong but what are your views on my Theory. Thank You for reading this long rant The White One...... 216.
we don't all live in a city where things are close and conveniently accessible by bicycle :coffee: I'm pissed off at this pipe I see them trying to plug up...I see a flange with about 8 bolts holding it together...looks to me like a perfect place to have installed A FUCKING REMOTE CONTROLLED SHUT-OFF VALVE !!!!!!!!!!
yes, but many do. they still insist upon getting in the car to go a block over. i noticed when the gas prices were at their highest, what seemed to be an explosion of bicycle riders. if you have to drive.. you have to. it's when it is not necessary that gets me. humans are lazy. humans have become to comfortable in conveniences.
So fucked up. All the poor animals/fish/birds. Thinking of the situation and the long-term ramifications makes me sick.
If it does leak for a few more months the oil will start going around Florida into the sea, then all hell will brake loose when the hurricanes pick it up from that side. This spill was planned, making it look like we are going to pump out own oil so we get our independence back, then break the pipe with no shut off losing oil, making the summer forien oil more expensive so the Non American companies make a fortune, and the government crooks pocket the difference. Plus no marine life means nothing to protect so anyone can do what they want along the shores. It makes me sick. Local people I know act like this as well taking what they want with no regard for anyone or anything else.
I agree we need to think of alternative transportation, but before that happens we (we meaning ALL Americans) need to admit we are addicts. We are addicted to oil. It is easy to ride your bike if you are in an area that permits you to do so, but the entire infrastructure of our country is based on people driving cars, and trucks used to transport every damn thing. Urban sprawl? Families that used to live in a 2 or 3 bedroom house now need 4 bedrooms, a game room and a goddamn den. We will not be happy until every fucking piece of land has a McMansion on it. We are all addicted, we have all been sold a lie and we bought it. Remeber the saying "whomever dies with the most stuff wins"? We thought we could win if we had more stuff, bigger trucks. more SHIT.... I wish it was as easy as riding my fucking bike. I work 20 miles from my apartment. I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am in decent shape. I will pass the fuck out if I ride my bike 20 miles in 120 degree heat. Why do I work 20 miles from my apt? It is the only job I could get 3 years ago, one I like, and consider myself lucky to have it. As far as the oil VOLCANO, becaue it is NOT a spill, any of you fucking TEA BAGGERS or mother fuckers yelling about "Less goverment..yadayadayada" now all of a sudden with the oil VOLCANO you want to blame Obama and say "more goverment"...WTF??? LESS GOVERMENT IS WHAT CAUSED THIS SHIT! LESS GOVERMENT allowed a foreign corporation to drill in American waters for oil that the top bidder will get, MOST LIKELY CHINA OR INDIA!!!! Why don't we all "ride our bikes" to Dick Cheney's house and dip his fat ugly ass in oil. He is the bastard that allowed BP to NOT install the valve that would have (hopefully) prevented this. Fuck humans...we are all doomed unless we take the power back from the bufoons that do not give a FUCK about anyone but themselves and their old fucking money.
no one needs to justify their use of a car to get to work. what gets me going is that this has become a monopoly. either you buy a gas car or.. you use something that much slower. i guess they do have electric cars.. (tesla?) but who the fuck can afford one? how did we let 'them' get away with this for so long. the oil will run out one day and then what? why are we cutting ourselves off at the knees? we all need to start thinking long term and not about what is convenient right now. i really wish the powers that be would too... so much greed... so many lies..
We've all known what to do about energy since the mid 1970's. The problem is our greed, selfishness, addiction to comfort, and our sold-out political system. For the most part, Americans are getting what they deserve, I hate to say it. We can blame Dick Cheney, sure, but Americans elected him.

Seeing all the birds and turtles suffocating, and wailing, unable to breath, fly, swim, move. It makes me wanna cry, and then go down to Washington and kick some lazy, tyrannical, fascist yankie ass! :beatdeadhorse5:
