How to break up?

I really no longer want to be in a relationship with the man im seeing. But I cant end things with him without it absolutly crushing him. He really really loves me, he needs me he says. And I use to love and need him. But now I just want my space and want to be on my own. How can I end things with him without hurting him? I cant bear the pain I will cause him. I need to know what to do. I cant keep sacrificing my own happiness just for him.

You can't end things without hurting him. You can't stay without hurting yourself. And you can't hurt yourself without hurting him. Some things you just gotta do in spite of the pain because you know that it will benefit everyone.

Yeah....I think the best thing is to be honest but without getting into all the details. Let him know that what the two of you had was special, you care about him and he will always be a part of your life and memories but you you feel like you need to move on. You can tell him that it hurts you too but that it wouldnt be good for either of you if you remained in the relationship without your heart being in it. I think that even if you feel really bad (and maybe he cries and asks why etc) you will feel really proud of yourself for putting yourself first and making a decision that will allow you to search for something that is a better fit for you.
