An interesting postscript from the kids singing "Another Brick in the Wall". http://www.thisislondon.com/news/articles/14980155?source=Evening%20Standard I wonder how big their royalty checks will be. Maybe enough to pay for a Happy Meal and a tank of gas.
They already did that back in 79, thry got paid and all got autographed copies of the album, most guest who appear on albums get a 1 time payment, like Clarre Torry, she sang on Great Gig in the Sky, she got paid for her work on that day in 1973, and that was that, now there's news saying she was trying to sue the band for royalties and credit on the song.
My initial impulse was if I were in their position, I would accept Cashier Checks or Money Orders. No Personal Checks, please. However, as you mentioned, they were paid at the time. It doesn't seem right to make changes to the payment system retroactive to 25 years earlier. By the same logic, I worked for a bank as a teller, at that time. I quit a couple years later. My job activities enabled the bank to enjoy a profit that year and is the underpinnings for their current profit. I'll accept Cashier's Check or Money Orders. No Personal Checks, please.
I remember reading about the kids that sang on Another Brick in the Wall. They were orinally paid nothing. It was later, after the story got to the media, that Waters compensated each child with an autographed copy of the album... no royalties and no cash. As for Clarre Torry, she did an amazing bit of vocals on Dark Side... I don't know how she was compensated... besides the Bid-O. IMO, she should still be glowing after that kind of exposure. The album was on the charts for like 15 YEARS. Just look what the diner scene in "When Harry met Sally" did for Meg Ryan...
