Does anyone here know how to make them, or know of any sites that give instructions? I can't find any anywhere!

In Nam the viet cong made sandles out of truck tire and made the straps were cut from from the innertube, the straps were tucked through diagonal cuts in the tire, you put rubbing alcohol on the straps and pull them through the holes by "rolling" the straps up on the the other side with a fair of needle nose pliars, if you simply pull on them they stretch and snap, the alcohol acts as a lubricant which evaporates away. the slots are cut a a sharp angle, and are very tight, the rubber on rubber keeps the straps from pulling out, you pull them through till they fit right then you trim them off about a quarter inch from the bottom, the straps are not adjustable but the the innertube straps are stretchy enough that you can easily take them on and off. Walking around will smooth off the bottom of strap stubs, when the tread get worn off you can slash new treads in with a sharp knife.. I own a pair from vietnam, they are comfortable on dirt but the tire is a little hard on pavement, the straps if you have tender feet can rub and become uncomfortable. steal this book speaks of this being done but oesnt explain how the straps are attach, i beleive it states it doesnt need nails or glue but i could be wrong, confused the crap out of me till i was given a pair.
