Exactly. It wasn't even on the market that long. It was the whole bad timing shitstorm. Aquired Immune Defiency Syndrome was called GRID (Gay Related Immune Deficiency) but then more straight people started coming down with it so they started calling it AIDS. People were using this diet candy and people would ask "How did you lose all that weight?" "Ayds" (pronounced aids). Needless to say people got a little freaked out.

I know someone who back in the early to mid 80s asked a worker at a supermarket, "Do you have AYDS?" The worker replied, "Excuse me, miss?"

And the interesting thing about AYDS was it didn't even contain an appetite suppressant. It was a chocolate candy which you were to eat and then drink 12 oz. of water. Of course it was the 12 oz. of water which suppressed the appetite
But I do remember when they were out and AIDS hit the headlines.

 

Also came in caramel didn't it?
