What does everyone think of the idea of having someone who is sober looking after you when you trip? Do you like having someone there? Do you not like it? What should that person do? In my humble opinion i do not think that having someone who is sober around you for the ENTIRE time when ingesting psychedelics is a good thing. I feel as though sometimes the person who is 'trip sitting' you may become worried about you unnecessarily when you are acting as they perceive as strange. But in your reality you are just experiencing the substance. If you feel as though you want someone there when you trip maybe have someone who is more experienced than you to trip with you? They could help you if things get rough? Thought? Comment? Suggestions?
It really depends on the substance to me. I don't really need trip sitters anymore and I usually prefer solitude if im not tripping with anyone else but I think with many substances for a first experience or first few its wise to have a sober sitter or experienced tripper. I think people blame trip sitters for interupting the trip or whatever but I think its the responsibility of the tripper to tell a sitter ( especially sober sitter) what they are trying to get out of the trip so the sitter has an idea of what to say and do.
If my friends were trip sat me while on DPT, most of em would have definitely called an ambulance - constant shaking, completely unresponsive, etc. Once I was in the 3rd plateau on DXM, and my two dick friends were over and they were constantly trying to scare me by saying things like "dude we just called an ambulance" and other shit like that, which got me SOOO fucking pissed (even then I knew they weren't serious but it was a huge tripkill). If you're gonna have friends trip sitting you, make sure you have an agreement that they WON'T call an ambulance and make sure they're not sadistic fucks who'll take pleasure out of ruining your trip.
Definitely agreed. Compared to many i am a 'newbie' to psychedelic substances. I have tried; DPT, DMT, LSD, Mushrooms, Salvia, and Dramamine (if that counts). For DPT i did not trip with anyone any of the three times i tripped. DPT blew my mind, and every perception that i had ever made out of the water and into a new place. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip even without a sitter. However on the other side of the discussion, during my DPT trip i vomited violently all over the room i was in, and all over myself. I also found myself eating my own vomit, which during the trip felt other worldly, but looking back was probably not something that i should have been doing. With LSD i have tripped on my own and with close friends who were also tripping. Some of the happiest and the most euphoric feeling and moments i have ever experienced were when i had taken lucy. I think people blame trip sitters for interupting the trip or whatever but I think its the responsibility of the tripper to tell a sitter ( especially sober sitter) what they are trying to get out of the trip so the sitter has an idea of what to say and do.[/QUOTE] Great insight guerillabedlam, thank you for posting a reply on this thread.
As far as the DPT section of your post. I agree with you. I think that DPT is best experienced alone, or if that is not for you then i think you should be with someone who is also tripping on DPT. Although that could get a little wild haha. And as far as the DXM comment. A very similar thing happened to me. I drank around three bottles of the stuff and began to have the strongest DXM trip i have ever experienced. It was my first time drinking the liquid to trip, before i always took the gel tabs. I was tripping reasonably hard, mild visuals, euphoria, and lots of closed eye visuals. I was with my girlfriend who was also tripping, having drunk about two bottles herself. A friend of mine came over and began to talk nonsense about different matters and was trying to make my girlfriend think that i had been talking to other people behind her back (which i never have done or EVER will). I suppose he thought it was all fun and games but as you said Magical mystery tourguide, things like that can be a real tripkill.
Like GB said, it really depends on the substance. I only have one person in my life who I trust enough to be my sober trip sitter, although we usually end up dosing together and taking care of each other anyway (I likened it to 2 drowning victims, each pushing the other down to take a breath... in retrospect, not that serious lol) and that's the way I prefer it. We took turns with Salvia, which was a splendid idea since we both had intense/disturbing breakthroughs and ended up helping each other re-emerge. Anything that I'm familiar/comfortable enough with, I won't hesitate to dose without a sitter... but for more intense, uncharted territory (Ket, DMT, etc.) we will most likely take turns sitting for each other. I think an important thing for a responsible sitter is to be aware of the difference between "trippin' balls!" and real danger. No sense getting hospitals involved for a psychological freakout. A good sitter should be prepared for the worst, but take it all in stride. Be sensitive to the tripper's wants/needs and treat them gingerly... bugging out tripping people is not fucking cool.
Unless they are there to catch you from cracking your head open on the floor as you're physically attempting to run (read: stagger) out of Salvialand... true story.
I think it's nice to have a sober person around but not for every trip. It's nice to be able to touch base with reality sometimes. Some of my deepest and strongest trips have been by myself, I feel I can fully let go alone.
Yeah for physical danger they are definitely great, I wanted a sober trip sitter when exploring deeper doses of DPT and was glad I got one, had my heart rate measured when I was sure I was in trouble, turns out was high but well within normal range, totally removed my anxiety about that.
Unless you're doing a retarded amount I think they are unnecessary. If at least one person in the group has done whatever you're doing at least once or twice then the trip will be fine. And even if you do a retarded amount, you don't necessarily need a sober person there, just someone on a lower dose that can handle the trip.
what's a 'retarded amount?' One person can take 35 Mgs of 2ce And be complete chill and a different person can take 20 mgs of 2ce and be fully immersed and overwhelmed by the experience. The same person can take 5 hits of weak acid and have a mild trip and then take 3 hits of quality acid and trip alot harder than the 5 hits. Going by dosage or hits is not a very reliable method of deciding if you need a trip sitter especially if you only have 1 experience with whatever substance it is.
Exactly, so there should only be trip sitters when YOU think YOU are taking too much and you feel that you will need one.
Yeah somebody who understands what that person may be like when they're tripping is a definite plus. Not too invasive or in the way but just casually seeing how they are doing every now and again while hanging out somewhere. That's always worked out for me well. I know what you're saying though about the strange thing, but that's usually only an issue if you're with somebody who doesn't know what to expect with a person when they are under the influence of psychedelics.
I'm having trouble following your logic. If you have 0 experience with a substance and based on what I said how can you know if you are taking too much? Or even if you have 1 experience with say LSD how can you be sure a 2nd different batch you take will not be extremely more potent, even if you take the same amount of hits?
I have had more positive experiences when not around sober people or trip sitters. As for the having 0 experience part, that's why you do it with someone who has done he drug and should be able to handle a lower dose trip. For me with mushrooms I also get weirded out by people who aren't trippin if I don't know them super well. Don't know why, but the soberness makes me feel like they think I'm different or weird because I'm high on shrooms and just don't understand because of it, don't know why that's just how it is.
I'm taking it you have not taken acid that much? Or youre not understanding what I'm saying. I agree with you on the second part I tend to get weirded out when I'm around other people not tripping too. Although occasionally its been nice to have them near.
Heroic doses (of a substance I am familiar with) I would MUCH prefer to be alone, possibly with someone aware of my plan and 'on call' if need be
