Playing in front of a non-metal crowd

Oh jesus christ...... A few days ago my buddies dad came up to us and was like "hey, there's an open mic night down at this bar I go to sometimes, you guys should check it out".

So a few days go by and were sittin' in the basement gettin' stoned when all of a sudden my buddy is like "yo, it's wednesday, are you down to go hit up that open mic night?"

I was baked and wanted to jam so I was like "hell yeah".

Anyway we pack up our cymbals and bring the double kick pedal (we wanted to add on to the kit that was already there) and then we headed over.

We get to the fuckin' place and these guys onstage are playin' this fuckin blues music or something. Not that I don't like blues... It's just that they were like 50 year old men and they were shit.

It was pretty funny, there was like 40 middle aged people and then like 10 people my age.. All the people my age were my friends who we brought.

Anyway, I start settin' up the drums and I hear the guy who was just on the stage say "look at this kid, he's cheatin' with that pedal". He was talking about the double kick.... Then he goes on to say "I know guys my age who can do all those drum kicks with one foot".

So I look at him and say "well can they do this?" So I fuckin rip a 7 second blastbeat with only the snare and kicks and then I gave the guy a smug look.

He looked pissed because he knew I was better than him. So my buddies are out for a smoke so I just sat behind the drums rippin' the fuck out of the double kicks and shit. The old guys in the crowd were all like "we've never even seen someone play the drums like that before".

So finally were all onstage. I look at my buddy and told him to play Winds Of Creation by Decapitated. He was down to play it so we jammed the fuck out of it... We only know the first 3 minutes or so but that's ok, we ended it early lol.

Then we played originals and jammed for the rest. The crowd seemed pissed that we were playing death metal shit at a bar, but fuck them. It's an open mic night and that stupid dick had to insult my double kick pedal.

NEVER will I ever play in a bar like that again..... Sure I'm only used to playing at small clubs where the faggot hardcore kids watch us, but at least they have a pit going and they like the music....

lol, I still don't know why the "hardcore" crowd likes us, I've told them all to fuck off numerous times but they keep watching.

 

You should play to crowds like that more often make a statement.

 

Lol. That kinda happened to our friends once. Our suburb Jerrabomberra had a "Jerra Idol" contest which pretty much consisted of teenagers trying to sing. And anyway my mates band rocks up, it's a single song entry but they just wanted the practice of not looking at their gear while they're playing, or something and anyway they're setting up taking ages and the manager is getting pissed because they're taking so long. Everyone else had a mic and a cd, these dudes are bringing in everything. It sounded like shit and the equipment wasn't great so their small amps had to do. So they start sound checking being idiots and there were maybe 4 or 5 of us at the front. Everyone stood way the fuck back. Dunno what they played but the bikies were pissed cause the vibrations were fucking up their pool game. Everyone hated it and the manager said at the end "ya know even if ya did make it through I'd never let ya play in here again".
