So I've finally settled on letting my hair dread via neglect (was undecided if I wanted to get it backcombed or T&R'ed) but am enjoying not really knowing what is happening with my lock formation, and the whole "insta-dread" thing to me seems weird/scary. These pictures are after a week and a little of neglect. Today was my hair wash day so my hair is a lot less frizzy, but the hairs are generally favoring their neighbors. Anyways, will post more and a few weeks, cause I know how much people love timelines. Cheers,
Ha, me too. Its weird how everything I read about on this forum regarding neglect is relatively valid. Ended up down the beach writing music last night and the little progress I had disappeared (I blame it on the salt water mist)...... woke up this morning and they were the most formed ive seen...... nothing but weirdness, but this forum inspires me to just accept what comes, and I love checking up on others progress. This forum rocks. Cheers to all the other dread lovers.
So I'm in a predicament........ Should I backcomb.. been thinking about it a lot lately but am unsure how it will affect the locking process. Think I am nervous about the locking on the back of my head. The front I can encourage certain sections to lock together but the back I cannot see or help along. I know this goes against the "neglect" method, but I'm hoping for somewhat uniform dreads (not manicured, just well sectioned). I've attached some photos of dreads I love (may be you....got them from the "Inspiration" thread). What do you guys think? were these backcombed? neglected? It a good idea to start with one backcomb session then let them do their thing?
Stop Stressing Out, And Just Leave The Little F***ers To Do Their Own Thing..... Yes, You Can Influence Them By BackCombing, Or Twist And Rip, But In The End All Your'e Best Intentions Will Come Unstuck When Mother Nature Takes Over.... You Have Good Length, Everything Appears To Be Going Well, So My Advice Is, Keep Them Clean, Put A Wool Sweater Over Your Pillow, Then Chill Out, And Enjoy The Ride... Cheers Glen.
Pure Woollen Pullover.... It Has To Be Pure Wool, Nothing Less.... Slip It Over Your Pillow, Helps In The Locking Process Like You Wouldn't Believe.... Cheers Glen.
Agreed, Don't know what got over me, im actually enjoying the ride..... Would Merino wool work? I have a few "IceBreaker" shirts which are made out of merino, but they feel really smooth.
Well, its about 3 weeks now.... I believe. Still neglecting... still going good... It amazing how curly and active my hair is getting. Normally its really straight but I really enjoy the transition so far, I even have some groupings I look for every morning to make sure they are still there....but sometimes the get undone in the shower and new groupings appear, so dynamic. It seems the back of my head is taking the longest to show progress.. Anyways, heres the update in picture form...
Salt water does wonders it really does It's a pity the nearest decent beach i live near is an hour and a half away, however it is Brighton which is easily the coolest city in the UK. definately gonna hit it up with friends a few times over the summer and get some swimming in.
Chilllll. Stop thinking about it. Use Dr. Bronners. the back will happen for sure, if the front is happening. You're being waaaaay too hyper about this. Forget it for a week, rip, repeat. /nijapost. back to camp.
