I've got about 4 months worth, maybe more and I'm wondering if over a period of time the potency or effictiveness goes away?
I've got it stored under the kitchen sink drawer, nice and dry in a seal locking bag.

I had a gram left in an old lock box for more than a year. I found it and it wasn't moldy, just very dry.

Put half in the freezer and take it out when the first half is done

I've heard about the freezer trick before. That doesn't hurt it in any way?

weed will keep getting better for 5-6 months cured in jars with the right conditions, anything longer than that would be really brittle and lose potency.

In your case you probably don't know how long the weed has actually been in the drying process or if it was done the right way, so I wouldn't let the nugs just sit around for another 6 months... definitely just put it in a jar and burp it every once in awhile, you should be good for 4 months. I've heard a lot about freezing too but it just doesn't sit right with me, never tried.

If you have ever bought weed from someone, chances are, it has been frozen at least once. Freezers are one of the most common places to store it.

Yes, it will lose potency (and actually change composition) over time, but it won't 'go bad', are anything like that. I have found weed that has been hidden in a sealed jar, outside for literally at LEAST 6 years, (which means freezing and thawing many many times) and it was still good enough to give a decent buzz.

Using the plastic ziploc bags are good, but if you're going to keep it for months then get a mason jar(s).

Mason jars are a must!! I would say to vacuum seal it though if you can. Just leave like a foot of extra bag space so that if you need to, you can get in & out of it by cutting the sealed strip off and resealing it again. Either way, the smell will be concentrated so when you open it, it'll spread like crazy :)
I like to keep a smokeable amount in a baby food jar that I've washed out. It fits about an 8th of nugs, sometimes more it depends.

that's a great idea, esp. cuz most people aren't gonna wanna keep a few gs in a huge mason jar. but i mean, if ya got that kinda quantity, then i assume mason jars are necessary.

I used to find old nuggets that I lost on the floor of my room from last year. I smoked it, got high, had a good time. I didn't notice any differences in potency or flavor compared to fresh weed. The only difference was that it was extremely dry, which isn't a problem to me at all.

It's best to leave the orange peels out. It gives a higher risk of mold infection.

I milked some I brought from back home for about 4 months (and it was already well cured when i got it)
Just kept in in a little box in the dark and everytime I was gonna smoke id put a piece of lettuce in there to moisten it up (a few hours before I smoked, not while smoking). Did a pretty good job and didn't seem to loose effectiveness.

A friend of mine smoked some week that I had laying around for AT LEAST 2 years in nothing but a sandwitch bag. He smoked like an 1/8 to get high (which isnt saying much cuz it was garbage in the first place) and said it was dry as all hell.
