Hey all, I have just begun my journey of dreading my long hair, 5 weeks in. I don't have access to baking soda or no-residue shampoos here but we do have $.50 baking powder. I read up on it and baking powder is sodium bicarbonate but it also has cream of tartar in it and starch or a similar chemical in it. Anyone know if this would be a problem to substitute the powder for the soda?

Also not sure if I'll do ACV rinses but I don't have it anyway, anyone tried regular vinegar?

I guess I can have my mum send me baking soda but it would take over a month and baking powder is so cheap here.

    Any suggestions?

clean water would suffice to wash, unless you dont have access to clean water in which case you are fucked

personally ive tried baking soda and felt like it did nothing,

I wouldn't use baking powder, it would probably be too mushy and gooey. I think it has some kind of starch in it.

Just use any shampoo that doesn't condition. You can use bar soap too, some people have used dish soap. It doesn't really make that huge of a difference.

I'm pretty sure baking soda and baking powder are quite different, baking soda needs an acid to react and baking powder has an acid mixed with it so when it gets wet it reacts. Basically what i'm trying to say is, i'm pretty sure baking powder has extra stuff in it, which may gunk up your hair... try mixing a bit of it with water to see if it turns into a paste like flour does...

Baking soda and baking powder are very different things and cannot be used in exchange for each other.

If You Can't Access Baking Soda, Just Use Water As Hot As You Can

Stand It, It Has To Be Hot, Or Otherwise It Will Not Remove The

    Oilyness......:).
