who else deals with migraines? lets share some ideas on causes, what we do to prevent them and what helps once one has a hold of us.
Once you get one take some advil and have some hot tea if you like (helps me anyways) Then curl up somewhere pitch black dark and silent, and preferably nice and warm, and take a nap. Thats what I do, and I usually wake up feeling better.
Yes, I have had them since I was a child. I was hospitalized at 4 with one as dehydration was an issue. They are hereditary and my Father got them. My sister also gets them. I get optical migraines and take a narcotic (Fiorinal C) when I have one. They usually last about 3 days.
i get them all the time. when i was a child I would vomit but soon outgrew that stage. I was lucky enough to inherit them from my grandmother. I have seen any and all doctors and been on all kinds of meds and the only thing that actually helps is sleep. Which can be extremely difficult but this is what works for me. I take a zomig, a klonopin, and go to bed. there are too many triggers and what is a trigger for me may not be for you. Here's a few: red wine too much stress too little stress waiting to long to eat a meal msg pepperoni (that is one of my triggers) and the list goes on and on When they are real bad I go to the doc and get a shot of demerol. I used to take all kinds of narcotics. Percocet, vicoden, fiorinal, firocet etc...they just would create rebound headaches. Still, I used to love having the percocet around but what i found was the combo of zomig, klonopin(lifesaver), and sleep. the klonopin helps relax the muscles and enables you to sleep, zomig for the pain. hope that helps
you must stop eating and drinking anything with caffeine if you can do this there is a very good chance the migraines will go away the first couple of weeks will have withdrawl headaches after this period they will go and you will rarely have migraines try it
I think I have one at the moment, or something similar tis weather induced, whenever there's a change in pressure my head goes to pot
hmm.. i have done all these things suggested and taken all the prescriptions mentioned too.. none of this stuff has worked.. i'm not done trying things though.. hopefully prop 19 passes and i can smoke again. that always helps.
I haven't gotten stoned in 22 years (military service) but am wondering if weed helps with migraines. I played rugby for years and feel that all the neck trauma is a leading cause. Any opinions on medical marijuana as a migraine treatment? Let's all get together and have a 'anti-migraine' party. Omar
Yes and when I first see the sparkles I USUALLY TAKE 3 OR 4 ASPIRINS (Which usually helps stop the pain when and if it does arrive) Anyone know what exactly causes them??
Do migranes cause irritable behaviour? Somebody who behaved very moody towards me had told me that it was because of migrains. I do not know if I shall believe her.
yes, it can. i get grumpy sometimes when i have one, but i usually let people know... "i'm in pain, it's not you!"
uuuhh.. possibly because when you have a bad migraine it's hard to even think properly. for me, just getting a glass of water sometimes is nearly impossible.
I used to get them soooo bad. It felt like my skull was cracking on the left side, my head would throb, my eye would get swollen then turn red and water. I would have to take meds and then pass out. For a while Exedrin Migraine worked better than any of the migraine meds. I only needed one and it would kill the headache fast. However, I got too used to it and it stopped working. When I was getting my worse migraines it was always around my period. They had me on a birth control pill that had three levels of hormones and I was on the thin side so it was way too much for me to handle. Now I am on a low dose pill (and about 25 pounds heavier....not from the pill though) and I dont get migraines anymore. I still get headaches around my period but never a full blown migraine. I have heard that some of the triggers for migraines are chocolate and peanuts. Also, I get headaches from diet soda in general. For some people they trigger full blown migraines.
Thankfully i have only really suffered a couple of times in my life with severe migraines. Here are some home remedies that i posted on another thread that had something to do with migraines, but now that i am reading this thread, they would have definitely been better suited here.
