some years back, when i still live in seattle; one of the librarians at the main library; came up to me and handed me a book. he said to me "knowing your taste in reading materal, i think you will love this new book we just got in." some people are 'mallrats.' i am a 'bookstore-rat and/or library-rat.' in the morning, after work, (i'm a nightowl. never been any good at all being a daylark!) i started reading that book... i went in to work that night with no sleep. very, very, very, few books grab and hold me that way! the title of the book the librarian gave was: "the girl with the dragon tattoo," by stieg larsson. from that book onward, i ate up everything, i could get my hands on, that stieg larsson had written. the girl with the dragon tattoo is now a move. i saw it tonight at the theater... i was fearing the worst for larssons' book. THIS MOVIE IS SUPER DUPER KICKASS SHIT!arty: from a zero to five star rating. i give the girl with the dragon tattoo a 5 1/2 star rating. it holds true to larssons' book. most movie directors fuck up quite badly going from book to movie... NOT HERE FOLKS! when we got home, (i'm staying with a friend in austin) vickie (my friend) got on her computer to amazon.com, to see, if she could order a copy of the book, girl with the dragon tattoo. we were overjoyed to no end, to find out the movie is also out on dvd too! arty: after vickie ordered a copy of the dvd and, sign out from amazon.com, i then sign in to my account with amazon.com and, ordered myself, a dvd copy of the girl with the dragon tattoo too. while we were at the amazon.com website. we found out that, movie production has started on larsson's second book in this trilogy (the girl who played with fire.) the girl who played with fire is a five star book also!arty: i hope, when the movie version of the girl who played with fire come up for release, i can give you all a 5 1/2 star rating for it too. woe, be to the movie director, if he fucks up the girl who played with fire... i'll bit his yin yin off and shallow it whole! :biggrinjester:
Thanx for the review and glad to hear that the movie was true to the book (altho I never compare movies to their original source and since I read very little, it is never a problem with me) I remember the movie playing not too long ago here but never got around to seeing it as I prefer bad movies. But now I may look for it on DVD when the price comes down.
I saw this recently. This is a movie with everything - nudity, kinky sex, graphic violence, good characters, a good plot, great suspense, and beautifully photographed and edited. It entertains you while it makes you think about important adult topics. Reading subtitles is well worth the trouble to see a masterpiece like this one.
Well, I will def get the DVD and check it out. Sounds like a really GOOD movie, so despite my disclaimer "I enjoy bad movies" I also enjoy good ones.
Missed this one when it was playing at the Miami Film Festival... Saw the trailer for it and was very impressed... Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD as well...
It has become one of the most successful foreign/subtitled moves to ever hit the US. So successful that they are talking about making an American version, in English. I think that would be a mistake. Nobody is going to match the quality of the original. Reading subtitles isn't that big of a deal anyway. The author of the novel (Stieg Larsson), who is now dead, wrote two other books in this series. The movie "The Girl Who Played With Fire" is already playing in Sweden, getting great reviews, and headed for the US soon. The third book, "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest", will probably become a movie next year. Some critics say the 3rd book is the best of the three.
Since I made that post, I have seen the 2nd and 3rd movies in the series, and I would not recommend either one. The 3rd was especially bad, with very little violence, no sex at all, and no on-screen chemistry between the two main characters. Unfortunately, the Swedish have learned the American art of making audiences pay for one great movie three times.
