When it starts, will you join up or go to prison for dodging?

    You mean conscription?

I'll be too old by then.

But if I wasn't, I'd go on the run probably.

    Fuck war.

It would certainly depend on the kinds of meals we had in prison. And if, the war included bordello-and-looting time.

Conscription has become more and more unpopular as time as passed, from when it first started, to ever since Vietnam. (Not that it was EVER highly-regarded to begin with. People don't like being told they are essentially being sent to die against their will.)
Some people even believe that the draft constitutes slavery.
I think the government would run into major opposition if they tried to re-enact the draft, and they know it.
The only circumstances under which they would even attempt it would be if the actual sovereignty of the nation was in jeopardy, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Can women be drafted now? If not, I would imagine they would change that if they were planning on drafting.

Let's say they can, I don't want to go to prison. Women are nuts and prison for women... let's just say, I don't want to go. Then again, I would have no intention of being caught. I sure as hell wouldn't go to war willingly.

It would also depend on war "for what."

    Edit: No; "for whom."

women do not have to sign up for selective service, so until that changes, women cannot be drafted.

my question is why the op asked "when it starts"? do you believe we are on the brink of a war?

If it were me in such a situation, I'd probably try and avoid it on medical grounds.

Unless you are from Thailand, I doubt very much he is referring to you as well (assuming it isn't in fact a hypothetical).

If that ever happened, I think there would be a huge increase in the birth rate all of a sudden.

I told my mom, if they ever started drafting women after I turned 18, I'd get pregnant or go to Canada. She yelled "GO TO CANADA!!!"

too bad about the dont ask dont tell policy, now you cant use homosexuality as an excuse to get out of the military

if women could be drafted, I wouldn't run or join. I would openly object. Then i would be sent to prison probably, but thats better than losing an arm or dying or becoming a prisoner of war.

    that is indeed true. touche.

i would rather stand up to the government and attempt to exercise the rights I probably don't have than run away and spend the rest of my life running, however.

Canada won't hide draft dodgers anymore. You'd be caught and sent back. Sorry, I don't make the rules.
