Well there you go. Gordon Brown is not the new head of the world bank. I was BSing. True bias is not always seen.
i think the cops did what they had too to curtail collateral damage in toronto...i am not politically savvy enough to comment on the whole g20g8 reasoning other than to say that i am not completely unhappy with my governments choices as of late
The damages in my part of the neighborhood (for last year's Pittsburgh G-20), which was a transit for the protesters, going towards two separate areas, that held the two biggest (or at least, most tumultuous) gatherings. I think this first one, really says a lot: It's a BMW/Mini dealer. In middle school, during hot summer days, I used to hang out there and drink their water and watch their TV on my way home. The one that told us we couldn't anymore was very humble about it, and told us that it was because some keys were stolen and told us he knew we didn't cause any troubles. So, I really don't care that their higher-ups had to replace a pane of glass -- but I'm glad that they were closed that day. But I love how the protesters just broke one pane of glass. These ones, aren't as cute, not because of the pictures themselves -- but because they were both open, with customers inside. Not too bad but... Here, not only were customers inside - but it was a busy afternoon - and the protesters used BRICKS from a neighboring lot where a former Taco Bell was being deconstructed. If you can see the window on the far left -- it was the only one that did not get busted. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Forbes Avenue had a whole block that looked like this. Every shop, BIG and small. Including, a family owned diner. I regret that I do not have pictures.
Can anyone tell me what crime these people committed? Looks like a violent group of Anarchist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qynihO0WFHc"]YouTube- OH CANADA G20 TORONTO You see the thing is whether you believe me of not, this is happening, and it is going to get worse.
That is FUCKED. At least here when the cops would attack whole groups of people they would give a big long warning. Also, Canadians are better at protesting.
it isn't governments, though of course none of them can be trusted either, but economic interests that have usurped the political process that are writing the script. and it isn't people who control the process, its the process that controls them.
You have basically echoed my sentiment that political sovereignty has been violated by corporate interests... and most governments are becoming less and less legitimate. Blame ourselves though- at least here in the U.S.- we could have been paying attention and interjecting our united voice as a critical check and balance in this but we're too busy being led astray by media/entertainment entities- arguably put in place for that very purpose.
I believe you. The corporations that pull the political strings for the puppet show commonly known as government are threatened if people are not distracted by other things because paying attention and comprehending what is afoot is the biggest threat to their future profitability by imperiling their unethical marriage to political power. If legal protesters can be successfully characterized as extremists and lawless troublemakers it will make the population in general far less likely to be sympathetic to their cause. Outrage with the police is an acceptable side effect of branding the protesters as hooligans... or terrorists and characterizing their message as being evil.
even if we weren't so distracted, we're not very good at unity anyway. one of the biggest mistakes the world makes in viewing the USA is that "united" is anything but an old nickname that doesn't actually fit.
Correct! Wrong place: designated 'free speech zones" Wrong time: During a G8/G20 summit. Does anyone see the problem here?
I dunno. It's probably more to do with being on a public highway etc etc etc blah blah blah yawn. I don't know enough about what was going on in that video. If the protestors had permision to march there and the cops stopped them then ambushed them...then BOOOOOOO. Otherwise, it's probably another clearing of the highway near the end of the day.. Not yet. I'd have to know if they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Seems that the definition of free speech is getting narrowed... you're free to speak as long as you agree with us?
Our prime minister shut down parliment in order to not hear that they had lost confidence in him... what chance is there that just a lowly citizen would get to speak out?
