I collected lots of brambleberrys in the early autumn and I'm planning on making some wine out of them, has anyone got some ideas for natural foods of the forest that I could collect around this time of year that would make a nice suppliment to my alcohol intake?
My mum's in the process of making sloe (little plum things) vodka, last year she made sloe gin, twas very nice
If you have to mess about with explosives then just be careful. Last year I bought 10 of those home brew beer kits and a group of us spent a couple of evenings preparing the mix and bottling up the beer with bottle kits and all sorts of crap and labels etc. It was a lot of fiddling about but we were prepared to wait for big day. It came earlier than we expected in the form of the police in the middle of the night cos one of the neighbours called the police after hearing a series of gunshots coming from the fields behind our gardens. While we were there we heard it too. Even the coppers were getting jumpy. Turns out it was only the beer going off. We only put too much yeast in the bottles. Thank God we never tried making hooky vodka or whisky.
Elderberries are a piece of piss to collect! Are you mad?!? (actually, don't worry about answering that ) The best and cheapest wine you can make is ginger wine. Yum yums! Oooh, and banana wine is pretty cheap too.
