Lately I have become involved in a relationship in which I finally feel comfortable with this person enough that I do not have to worry about STDs. However- I am not at a point in my life to be making any babies. I have been on birth control pills, but I don't trust them because my mom got pregnant with me while on them, and so have a number of other people I have spoken to. Lately I have heard of the nuva-ring, but have not been able to get many facts out of people about it. If anyone may have an answer to my questions, that would be great... 1) How effective is it as birth control? 2) What is the failure rate? 3) How easy is it to put in? 4) Convenient/non-convenient? 5) Does it control some acne the way birth control pills do? (This is what I was originally put on the pill for) 6) Any nasty side-effects?
Hi sorry I haven't responded sooner. I have gotta remember to check this section more often. THE NUVARING IS AWESOME! I have been on it for about a year and a half and before that I was on the pill. Maybe it was just the pill I was on, but I would have spotting throughout most of the month. It ruined a lot of underwear and just made me feel uncomfortable because it seemed it was the wrong dosage or something for me. I also had anxiety that I would forget or had forgotten (even though I was pretty good about taking it). I beleive the failure rate is equal to that of birth control. However this is much more difficult to screw up with. You put one in after a period, take it out 3ish weeks later. When I forget to take it out, my period comes when the ring no longer has enough hormones and then I take it out. No daily thing. It's sort of amazing. It's so convientient. It is really easy to put in. If you are really uncomfortable getting it in with your fingers you can take a tampon our of it's applicator and squeeze the nuvaring into the applicator and then put it in just like a tampon. Getting it out you have to put your finger in there, but it's easy to get out. It has the same hormone as certain other birth control pills. I am not sure about this though. i have never gotten super bad acne but it definitely didn't make it worse. I don't really think there are nasty side effects. Like other birth controls, it may make you more moody. anyway, i have to go. feel free to PM me anymore questions or just respond here. Either way works.
I heard that it can cause cysts on the ovaries. So I'm staying away from it and just taking the pill.
One thing that always cracks me up are the nuvaring ads placed all over the hospital in Scrubs. I wonder if they are trying to suggest that people try it... haha
Lmao I wonder why... I swear ads for any kind of medication always have to toot their own horn way to much. Like Viagra, doesn't anyone know that if you have a sudden drop in blood pressure that means death! Or that it can cause temporary lose of vision or hearing? How the fuck is a guy gonna have sex if he suddenly loses his vision or wait he is fucking the girl and suddenly she gets quiet? Or even better he suddenly dies on top of her? I mean seriously I'd rather have a floppy winky then be dead. Sorry about the rant I just think modern medicine sucks and if there are side effects that are life threatening then it shouldn't be on the market.
My GF was using it up until recently. She quite because she has a health issue that makes her unable to use hormone based birthcontrol. We were very happy with it until she had to go off it. 1) How effective is it as birth control? It is as or more effective than the standard pill. 2) What is the failure rate? Less than 1% if used properly. 3) How easy is it to put in? She used to take it in and out when we had sex. It was easy. It was something best to let her pull out though, because, depending on the position, you have to be careful how you do it. 4) Convenient/non-convenient? She said it was easy. She said you could feel it if you paid attention, but forgot about it normally. We pulled it out during sex because otherwise I could feel it and it ended up stuck around the base of my penis a couple times. 5) Does it control some acne the way birth control pills do? (This is what I was originally put on the pill for) IDK 6) Any nasty side-effects? Infertility?
