Its like the granpappy of all RPG games. It used to be so popular.. I went into a gaming shop had tons of stuff but no Dungeons and Dragons products. WTF?!?! Does anyone have a theory to why this happened?
It's mainly due to the advent and advancement of computer games. Pen and Paper has been replaced with Keyboard and Mouse.
A lot of the better rouge-likes have the sort of depth you got from AD&D. I always found the problem with AD&D was finding a decent DM. No one wants to tell a story, they just want to fuck you over.
Because every five years they revamp the rules and attempt to get player to re-buy all the core and supplemental books again, plus TSR is gone replaced by WOTC which is owned by a greedy toy company.
Ever play the original Neverwinter Nights on the PC? It is the pretty good at translating the D&D rules and gameplay to the computer.
Yes, I have played the original NwN. Its a fun game. Have you ever played any of the Gold Box games. I got some pictures of those on my profile.
No, I didn't get into D&D too much and only really played out one game when I befriended some guys that had been playing for years together. Then everyone started playing computer games and the table top D&D fell to the wayside. Pissed me off too. The DM I guess got bored so after 4 weeks of playing twice a week and a very lengthy battle which we won we enter some ruins and one of our party took a mace/hammer that we found. DM says "wait a second" rolls dice and next thing we know we were banished and transported to some desolate plane with nothing around and the ground was wood and steel. Turns out it was Thor's hammer we stole and Thor banished us to spend all eternity on the hammer and we were about the size of spider mites.... What a way to end a game I liked the game while it lasted, but the chance of us getting back into playing D&D is 0%.
Here is my level 27 Red Dragon Disciple from NwN...They are the most powerful character in that game you could be...
There's a group of old men that I used to work for and they still do fantasy football on paper. its funny cuz they have a draft where they all get together in the restaurant and take up half the dining room while they're hollaring at each other about the draft. I had no idea fantasy football was like that before computers.
Well I would suggest some of the old DnD computer games. Like for MS-DOS. You can use DosBox. My two favorites are Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds... Do you read any of the books. I like to read Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms. Those are pretty good.
