If you have it, id like to talk to you. I have ocd and sometimes it feels like i'm from another planet i'd like to talk to other aliens. :coffee:
ocd is yet another affliction created by the pharma industry much like a.d.d, you need to learn to distract yourself and refocus the energy.
Yes and no.. I have OCD with weird things like keeping somethings in order but other things can be out or order.. I like to think of it more as quirks.. Definitely not the ocd you see on those specials on tv
That's all fine and good until you live with someone who lines up items on shelves with a string, revacuums the floor when the lines aren't straight and panics when they can't wash sticky stuff off their hands and can't cope when the creases on their pants aren't crisp. It's creepy. Most people will have a few reasonable rituals that may, when they're stressed out anyways, get intrusive. Like checking the coffee maker and stove are off before leaving, get down the driveway then turn around to check one more time. That's pretty normal. That's not really OCD.
I used to work at a care home, and one elderly lady would spend her day arranging and rearranging items in her room, changed her clothes dozens of times in the day and would wrap her body in loo roll so that her clothes wouldn't touch her skin
Yeah, I think a lot of people do that. Things have to be fairly extreme for it to be actual OCD, and have a big impact on how you're living your daily life.
if i dont' wash my hands 45 times a day... the universe will implode ocd is invented by people who have nowt better to do with their time
Some of those people have very lucrative careers in industries that are tolerant of their quirks and condition. Like CGI and programming.
of course.. i love quirky and eccentric people... the world would be a much duller place without them but the universe aint' gonna stop if someone removes the handbasin and soap
OCD isn't always a washing hands EVERYTHING HAS TO BE FUCKING ORGANIZED!!! , it varys, some people get obsessed with certain things like even or odd numbers, or its completly all in the head- and you can't really tell, you just start to notice you're consumed with thoughts of one thing every so often.
You're fucking ignorant. I wouldn't choose this for my worst enemies. You have no idea what you're talking about. You're not informed on the topic at all. It's not just ' oh I need to wash my hands or else the world will fucking implode'.
I have OCD, I find this topic frustrating and always moan when it comes up on these boards. I'm going to again. That is so wrong is annoys the hell out of me. I have ticks as well, which stem from it (though, they are easily hidden ones thank God!), and if someone told me to stop doing them because I could I would punch them in the face. And then tell them that was my OCD and I can't stop, so will have to continue to punch them in the face.
duuuhhh ... yes they can, they just need help and time to do it newsflash! ocd treatment involves weening them them off their obsessive compuliseve behaviour ie.... you remove the handbasin and soap (or the need to wash hands.. stack shelves.. vacuum the cat.. count to a hundred, wotever) and guess wot, when they are weaned off their ocd.. they realise the universe ain't ended y'all talk like it's a permanent condition.....
I think for anyone who does not have it or has not lived with someone who does, it is very difficult to understand it. It is something that a person wants to stop, the recognize it is a problem and yet are not able to stop themselves. I think it is very frustrating for those who have it and not something that others understand unless directly exposed to it. Even then most people seem to have the attitude, just stop doing it. I am sure anyone who has it wishes it was that simple.
