I'd like to start a blog. Any ideas on how to get people to find out about it? Also, I'm afraid that writing with the same voice will bore people. I don't want to sound to self critical or to grandiose - 2 extremes I am capable of.
I say go with Wordpress. The interface is very easy to use. Of course, I've used nothing else BUT Wordpress so I guess I'm biased lol And this is totally (okay, maybe not totally) unrelated, by I HATE the term 'blogging'. It just makes me conjure images of fashionably liberal pussies sitting on a park bench with a laptop. I prefer the term "internet writer" to "blogger". And as an "internet writer" (or, as I prefer, a "peddler of dirty jokes bashing his face against the keyboard") you need to keep one thing in mind -- If you want people to read your shit, you gotta be original. At our site, me and my boy break our balls to figure out how to provide funny and/or informative shit that's more interesting and readable than the trillions of other blogs out there. My advice to you: 1.) Write well, always. Triple check your spelling and sentence clarity. 2.) Be either funny or serious. Don't pussyfoot around humor or seriousness. From my experiences, I've noticed that the whole "sometimes I'mma be funny but then, other times, I'm gonna blow a mufucka's mind with seriousness!" fucks up the rhythm of your site. 3) Be original. Stay away from broad, mainstream topics. I write articles daily for our site. I've learned the best ways to grab a reader's attention is by focusing on "small" news. Fuck presidents and governors. The best stuff to write about comes from regular people. Mostly because relatively unknown folks tend to say shit that's WAY more retarded. Sorry for writing so much. I'm a trifle inebriated.
