Need help with ideas for a hippie gathering I am organizing...

Myself along with my friends who all helped in organizing our community Ren Faire back in April will be helping again to organize a hippie gathering for our community called "Woodstock Southampton".

I need ideas for activities and things to do so show me whatcha got.

So far I have:

-Face painting
-Tie-dying
-Henna
-Aroma therapy
-Hair brading
-Love beads/jewelry making
-Environmental awarness lessons, etc.

There will be food, people can dress in the old 60's and 70's attire if they chose and we'll have many of the hits from "back in the day" playing.

Anyway, ideas would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like a great idea. Is it going to be on Long Island?

You could probably hold some yoga and meditation sessions and perhaps drum circles

 

Do pot first, then everything else will seem fun!

We will be holding it in the little bitty town of Courtland, VA. You've probably never heard of it but if you look in a history textbook and look up Nat Turner you'll figure it out. It's the county seat of Southampton County, VA.

Unfortunately for the ones that do the drugs...drugs are not allowed because we are inviting the entire area to this so there will be children.

But in this day and age we will be promoting the messages of the original Woodstock Music & Arts Festival - Peace, Love, Music, Positive Change, etc.

We are going to try to get live music...Depends on money. Our lovely government has been cutting education funding left and right so the library (friends of the library and SCA are helping me plan this) has very little money. If worst comes to worst, I can hook up my friends sharons sounds system that is SUPER loud and play the music from back then being as I have a bunch of it on CD.

We will also be having food like I said and beverages.

We will also be collecting donations. All of the collected money will go to the Gulf Coast to aid in the oil cleanup.

All your bases are covered. I like the above idea that Aneas mentioned of the drum circles. However, I don't know that you will be able to avoid the probability of hippies not bringing drugs

Oh, and drugs are not allowed...so if someone manages to sneak drugs in we will have the police on hand to remove them from the grounds.

Might want to add that to the flyer or somehow warn people so that the hippies know and don't get arrested for smoking pot....

 

good call willow, that would be a very wise thing to put on the flyer. but i have a feeling that most hippies still wouldn't get it. The main "gathering" i go to every year to exchange goodies says they don't allow drugs or alcohol on their website but NO ONE respects that because it's just on there for show. so good luck keeping that group out of a "woodstock" festival...really cool idea for a get together tho

that reminds me of some places they have a sign that says no smoking.. and thats the clue to know that it's cool to smoke there haha..

I'm not really in the area, but if I was, I would not go to that, unless you signed the Who to play or something.. eveything else sounds like its more intended for a kids camp type thing... actually all of those activites can be found at the kids section at the rainbow gathering..

I mean come on... "I will arrest anyone smoking marijuana at my hippie fest!"

thats soooo uncool... but it is illegal in the States haha.. Im glad I moved back to CANADA

that is a fair arguement about the activities list. but if i was really baked and maybe rollin, i'd have a blast at all of those booths while listening to a decent cover band.

 

Well, it's intended for teens and kids...so, it's obviously not going to be like THE Woodstock festival. Plus I live in a southern-conservative style community. They'll be fired up enough just at the idea of this thing...I'm sorry that it isn't cool enough for you. lol.

 

Sometimes those faires can be down right scary, especially when you injest a concoction of various intoxicants. I was running around and everything turned Hebrew, the cop cars had the Star of David on them with Israeli flag colours.. Its mostly Tonasket with that heavy vibe.. other things Id rather not talk about, there are a ton of horny hippy girls there though.. thats why its best to have the most "hippy pimpin' " place to stay..
