I have a friend that has just taken his fully inoculated mycelium cakes (1/2 pint) out of their jars and placed them in a terrarium. Theyve been there for about a week 90-100% humidity, about 75 degrees. The cakes have shown no pinning or progression whatsoever. What is going on. might the cakes be too dry? maybe he should dunk and roll?.... or is it too early to see anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance.

Sometimes they take longer than a week to pin, just wait grasshoppah. As long as there is no contamination you should be fine.

You need more oxygen, Full Colonized cakes won't pin when theres too much CO2

they've been fanning about 4-5 times a day to rid CO2

thanks for the tips. I will keep this thread updated as to the status.

Full colonization is what triggers the fruiting stage. Light aids in this, along with high humidity, and fresh air exchange(evaporation+CO2 removal). Evaporation of water from the cakes increases the number of pins massively at any stage after colonization aswell. That is if tha cakes have any water in them to evaporate.

Did you leave the jars for the extra week of consolidation, after the full colonization? Next time, if this grow fails, wait until you see a few little red dots (pins) inside the jars, then bring them out to fruit. This can increase the number on pins you get to if you introduce them to the fruiting conditions after.
