So you consider the Twilight movies good movies because they sell well? Or you consider justin bieber's music good pop music?
couldn't tell you. i'm not that great of an impartial judge i think they both suck. honestly though i haven't ever watched/read twilight so i couldn't tell you and i've only heard some of justin bieber's songs. the few that i've heard weren't BAD, but i don't necessarily like them.
From what I've read the movie critics bash the twilight movies but the last one sold well, so there is a conflict there with the impartial judges rating and the movie's sales. Alot of what i considet good music has been dismissed by impartial judges as well as alot of crap music that's went on to either sell well or stand the test of time if you will. I would probably appeal to you for music just as much as a critic or the billboard charts.
for one thing i said generally, and i was speaking of POP MUSIC. jackass had shit ratings but did damn well in the box office. what you consider... seriously, i'm not trying to argue. it's a fact that just because YOU don't like a song makes it a BAD song. correlation vs causation. welcome to psych 1000
correlation vs causation just because A happens when B happens, does not mean that A causes B and vice-versa. kind of a stretch. there are other terms for whats happening here, but the point is: just because you think a song is bad does not necessarily make the song bad.
you mean psych 101? I know what correlation vs. Causation is. Good luck trying to find any causality in regards to something as subjective as music preference. I am a bit of a music elitist and snob I will admit but my taste in music and elitism only gets reaffirmed by those who I introduce music too. or they come back sometime later to me discovering it on their own. I have never said that all music I dislike is necessarily bad music, but I will feel free to call out crap music when I hear it.
psych 101 = psych 1000 there ya have it. music preference is EXTREMELY subjective. only thing that elitism and being a 'snob' does is blind you to other aspects of a whole spectrum. sure you don't have to like or even appreciate other kinds of music, but you can't discount people for liking music that you think is 'crap' i'm not trying to justify that katy perry is an exceptional artist or anything, but i guarantee that with an attitude like yours you might hate on music that I think is of high merit...but alas it wouldn't make a difference, because those that are elite are above such matters... likewise, i'm sure some of the music you enjoy would probably not be held with the same regard if ever I listened to it. i see you have TOOL listed in your sig...that is a definitive band that releases some of the exact same music repeatedly - album after album. i'm sure that i just am too shallow of a thinker to appreciate it or whatever it is you TOOLs say, but to me, they are a monotonous collective that really doesn't strive to do anything different.
I've never discounted people based on their music tastes and this song is crap. I'm leaving it at that you can internalize, argue with it all you wish in your head.
i wasnt arguing. just stating that your supreme musical taste doesn't apply across the board. in fact, saying tool is monotonous is a little light. they are pretty pretentious and kind of annoying
In regards to Tool the song I have listed contains poly rhythm odd time signatures of 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 all in the same song, also Maynard's lyrics are expressed using the Fibonacci number sequence and the content of the lyrics is different then most metal. I don't feel like defending them past this.
The song is annoying and insubstantial. Also, people like Katy Perry don't even write their own lyrics, which makes it even worse. She's only a star because of the marketability of her physical hotness. The song is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with mainstream music today.
a lot of 'classic' rock, ragtime and early 'pop' music was written by people other than the performers. some people regard these types of music better than any other...just saying doesn't make the song any more significant in my opinion. although it is interesting - it still isn't too appealing.
Great that's your opinion, I'm not going to start belittling you and tell you how many albums Tool has sold to convince you to like them or that that train of thought should even validate their music. I don't like the fucking song ok? Its repetitive, annoying, unimaginative and bland which I find unappealing.
That's true, but a lot of those people actually had talent. They could sing and/or play the instruments used in the performance of those songs. Katy Perry, as with many other pop stars these days, is only popular/successful because she's nice to look at. That, as well as the fact that many teens, children, and shallow 20-somethings don't care about artistry and substance; they only care about what's popular.
