So the day finally came... I was anxious with excitement all day as I was about to see Tool perform on the same stage I received my college diploma on less than 2 months ago. The blazing hot Southern California weather gave way to some rain and overcast weather at about 5 pm which seem to set the stage and add to the excitement I was feeling. I took 30 mgs of 4-aco-dmt orally at 8 pm as the opening band came on. I felt the initial signs come on very suddenly. Due to either placebo or the dim lighting in the room I was coming up within 15 minutes. The opening band was ok not really my style but they just played and knew their role preceeding Tool. About a 1/2 hour into their set I went outside for a bathroom break. With the constant chatter outside and the slight color distortion especially to darker colors like black and purple I felt a sense of uneasiness. I tried 4-aco-dmt once before but I took it rectally and the oral dose felt much heavier, some of that could be due to the higher dose but visually it was pretty similar just a slightly nauseous body load. I felt somewhat claustrophobic being around so many people but I managed to keep my composure. When I returned to my seat the opening act played about 2 more songs and then walked off the stage. The lights came back on and I looked across the Arena to see the orange seats appear all melded together with a sea of black which were people mostly but I had a tough time separating individuals from this distance. I talked to my friend who I went with and he seemed slightly uneasy as he doesn't trip but he was cool about it, he just didn't seem to know what kind of questions to ask me or if to talk to me or not. The opening band played for about 50 minutes. 15 minutes after the lights came on, they again went down this time to a sea of people cheering and excited. In the complete darkness Timothy Leary's voice rang throughout the arena "Think for yourself , Question Authority..." As the speech continued a screen with Leary appeared in the center of the stage with runny acid visuals appearing over his face. A few moments later the band came out on stage assuming their positions. Tool takes an unorthodox setup live they have the guitarist and bassist in the front of the stage and the singer and the Drummer in the back almost forming a square. As soon as Adam Jones distorted guitar rift started to the opening of Third Eye with Leary's speech continuing in the background all nausea I had was completely banished. The rest of the band kicked in and Maynard came out in what looked like a mailman outfit with even a sack around his shoulder which I'm pretty sure was holding his muffled microphone, but regardless it was amusing either due to my distorted perception or him purposefully wearing that ridiculous outfit. 2 more sets of visual displays kicked in behind them all around the stage. The band plays in the shadows, the lights never focus on Maynard or Danney Carey and only occasionally do they light up on Adam Jones (guitarist) and Justin Chancellor (bassist). Third Eye was good but there were a few flubs that probably went unnoticed to the majority of people who don't play a musical instrument or don't know the song really well. Adam Jones had an amazing extended solo on this song, it was nice and with the visuals it took on almost a jamband quality but without going completely off on a tangent, it still all felt relative to the song. I dropped the MDMA midway through this song. I don't remember the set list in exact order but this was all the songs: (there was 1 more interlude I don't know the name of) Third Eye Jambi Ion Stinkfist Eon Blue Apocalypse The Patient Vicarious 46 and 2 Intolerance (Pleasant Surprise) Schism Lateralus Aenima Every song after Third Eye was played near flawlessly, Maynard's range is still amazing and he hit every note he had too. Throughout the set spinning fractals and psychedelic moving artwork was on the multiple screens, occasionally some purple circular lights shown down on the stage and the front of the crowd and for one song they even brought out lazers. The MDMA kicked in around The Patient and the air in the room seemed to get extremely lighter as waves of euphoria coursed throughout my being. For most of the more upbeat songs I danced more like a raver incorporating my whole body as opposed to many of the people who were simply headbanging. On some of the interludes like Eon Blue Apocalypse I sat, meditated and flowed through a series of closed eye visuals and patterns being guided by the ambiance of the music. The Closed Eye Visuals were amazing and seem to be a lot more defined with this combination then on 4-aco-dmt alone. I was pleasantly surprised they decided to play Intolerance one of the songs off Undertow, one of their earlier albums. It's my favorite song at the moment from that album and they could have easily chose the more well known Sober. Intolerance was just straight up metal which was a nice change from the mostly prog set. The highlight of the night for me was Lateralus. It is my favorite Tool song and in my opinion the best song of the 21st century. My mind was just sent spiraling to another level when the opening guitar riff dropped to that song. I sang along with the Fibonacci Cadence of Maynards lyrics and the visuals they had displayed moved in time and color with the lyrics "Black and white, is all I see, in my infancy, red and yellow then came to be" creating an amazing synergy and synesthesia. I sang and lost it when the song Kicked in full throttle with Danney Carey's drums and Justin Chancellor's bass and the lyrics "Over thinking, over analyzing, separates the body from the mind" the music just flowed and coursed through my entire being. In the breakdown of the song they brought out a guest drummer and Danney Carey and him had a dual drum solo which again still felt relevant to the song as Chancellor maintained the bass line and Jones added surreal sound effects from the guitar. As the songs outro pulsed and Maynards vocals came back again I danced and gyrated my whole body in time to the beat. I was making circular motions with my fingers on the lyrics "Spiral out , Keep going !" and it seemed as if I was creating some magical energy that probably created some spark of force somewhere on the other side of the universe. Truly a magical moment and highlight of the night. After that I made my way to go get some water, Aenima came on Maynard's most angst filled 'fuck you' type song. I chose to remain in the back and isolation for this song. 1/2 way through the song some guy comes up and approaches me. He offers a fist out for a pound I respond and then he asks my name and I exchange a greeting with him. A couple moments later while I'm in the middle of Maynard's most pissed off vocal perfomance the guy asks me "Do you have some stuff?" I responded "I don't know what stuff is" he further pursues me and says "Some stuff, you know special stuff?" I retorted again "I don't know what special stuff is?" and then I looked up into his eyes and for a minute I had a moment of uncertainity and ambiguity where I wasn't sure whether he wanted drugs from me or wanted to kiss me. He then offered out a fist for a pound again this time I did not respond, he then walked out of the arena. I hope that kid finds his special stuff one day. I came back to the music at a perfect time as Maynards vocals sang "I can't imagine why you wouldn't welcome any change my friend." Then tool finished with the hard hitting abrupt ending of Aenima and that was the show. The three instrumentalists came out for a bow, Danney Carey was rocking a Lakers jersey which was amusing too and then they existed the stage. It was a 2 hour set but felt so much shorter. Even my sober friend who beforehand was saying he may have to cut early because he had work in the morning was wishing it was longer. I went back home, and was still rolling pretty good with a trippy element from the 4-aco-dmt. I took 250 mgs of MDMA and it seemed to overpower the 4-aco-dmt a bit but it was a nice synergy between the two. I lied down and played some music and kind of drifted off still getting quality closed eye visuals. I didn't have much trouble getting to sleep which was nice. Today I feel quite a bit physically exhausted and I got the 'I definitely took MDMA last night' feeling but overall i'm in a pretty good mood and considering my body exhaustion I have a refreshed spirit from the show last night. Amazing combination of psychedelics, amazing visual display and amazing music.
sounds like an awesome show, regardless of tripping. of course the trip sounds amazing too. i'm the first of many jealous people to post in this thread it's kinda neat and weird that they set up the way they do. i really enjoyed the description of lateralus. i sang along as i read it "black, and, white are, all I see, in my infancy, red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, let's me see...as below so above and beyond i imagine, drawn beyond the lines of reason, push the envelope, watch it bend." take it away guerilla "there is, so, much, more that, beckons me, to look through to these, infinite possibilities." also the part about special stuff was amusing. i bet he wanted acid or mdma. maybe weed. the last concert i went to - weezer - was SHORT AS FUCK - they played for about an hour and 15 minutes! that includes leaving the stage twice. for $40/ticket. they played really well, and it was awesome WHILE IT LASTED, but c'mon
Sounds awesome. Im so jealous you got to experience a live Third Eye, even if it was flawed. And yes Lateralus is a truly awesome song and holds signifigant value for me personally. I got to see it live with a long Tom Morello solo I hope I experience it again someday.
Yah lateralus is an amazing piece of music. It was funny the guy I went with, I work with too and he was pointing me out today saying "Thats guerillabedlam" (yes my real name is guerillabedlam ) he said it very matter of factly, he either thinks im cool now or a nut after seeing me dance lol, possibly both. That sucks Weezer played such a short set Pork, they play mostly newer stuff or everything? I don't know much of their music past Maldroit. Morello on Lateralus? Is that even legal? Morello was my favorite guitarist for awhile, That's legit. Third Eye was still really powerful and I feel lucky to have seen it, I never thought I would have seen the salival esque version either and assuming they hit every note its even better than the salival version.
I liked the description of your experience when Lateralus was playing. I can relate. Sounds like an awesome concert and yes I'm very jealous.
Another great TR! I'm glad you had an awesome time. I also notice a very quick comeup with the 4aco that made me a little nervous the first time I took it. I get my first alerts within 15 minutes! At first I thought it was placebo, but then a noticeable shift in perception takes over and it's steadily upward from there. I experience a little more physical and mental discomfort here and there until I reach the peak, but then I settle into a nice little groove where everything is just about perfect. The synesthesia from music on 4aco is some shit, ain't it? Only 2c-e comes close for me, but without the body load and so much mindfuck. I can't wait to see some live music with 4aco, I can just imagine how perfect Tool must be for it. So overall you would say 4aco and MDMA have a pretty good synergy about them? I was going to have this combo the other day but at the last minute decided it wasn't the right day for it. Thanks for another awesome TR!
Haha. How very considerate of you Sounds like a nuts night. I was going to see Tool but it would've been in a box seat and....fuck that. I still haven't tripped at a concert or festival. Only raves and once at the Moulin Rouge. Hopefully I'll make it to Glastonbury next year.
are you saying that 2ce has more body load and mindfuck than 4acodmt, or the other way around? also, is an empty stomach preferred when dosing 4acodmt? i don't think my one bowl of breakfast cereal this morning should be a problem...
Awwww, pork, are doing your first dose of 4 ace's today? Well, for me, empty stomach or not, you won't be disappointed. 4Aces has quite the quick come up though for most, which can be abrupt for some. If you'd like to come up a little slower, i'd say a small meal would be fine. I'm excited for you man! You'll have a great time, im sure. I might join you today on a 4Ace's Adventure from across the interwebz. We'll see how things go. :coffee:
Yes they have a good synergy and I like the order and way I dosed it too. With the 4 aco Dmt first and then the MDMA at little over an hour in. You get to experience the 4-aco-dmt by itself that way then a good 3-4 hours of the combo and the 4-aco-dmt euphoria almost showed up right when the MDMA comes on which was nice, then it settles into more of a trippy roll. I recommend not doing the combo when you have work the following day tho.
Yeah... wrote that at 7am, just realized it didn't make sense. 2c-e is the heavy load and mindfuck for sure, but according to Psychedelic Bump it seems you've found that out for yourself by now
That sounds awesome... That would be the order in which I'd dose as well, seeing as MDMA seems to have a much shorter duration than I ever imagined. I'm definitely interested in this combo, but I didn't have a great first trial run with MDMA so I'm thinking I'll do it on its own once more at ~300mg before I try mixing. I'm gonna be disappointed as fuck if turns out I'm just tolerant to it... I had big plans for MDMA. Man, I can only imagine the thoughts and feelings you must have experienced. Good live music is a hell of a drug in and of itself, but throw those 2 into the mix? Sheeeet... makes me all giggly and happy for you just thinking about it
Here is some live video of the show: Not the best sound quality but you know... I know what ya mean man. I was trippin on 2c-i during that set and nearly pissed myself when Tom came out. It was like my first favorite band stuffed with my second favorite, like lobster stuffed with tacos. I hope they are doing some shows around the east coast this year.
i love it!!!!! reminiscent of my two experiences with tool! so did they open with third eye? if so that's crazy! i have to agree with you about lateralus, and god experiencing that song live is ineffable...the music is pure divine energy (dare i say: much like the dead?). yes your description of the song is great! it's hard for me to only head bang to tool, most of the songs make me really want to MOVE, but that could just be how i am personally affected by music. and yes lateralus + tom morello = greatness gaaaaaaaaaaaah thank you for sharing
Great report. Pretty convenient the MDMA kicked in during The Patient, that's my 2nd favorite song behind Lateralus. Especially after reading this, I'm pretty jealous now that I didn't see Tool when they came. Anyways, informative and entertaining report, made me laugh when you thought that dude wanted to kiss you . No, not like the dead, better. I know I will feel that way for certain, but please feel free to give me your favorite dead song or a starting point, as I am mainly just ignorant. I never could get into them but I haven't heard many songs by them and haven't tried to listen to them in years.
I don't hold the Grateful Dead in the same light as I do Tool. I feel Tool's rhythmic arrangement and meditative songs relate more to like psychedelic patterns and structure better than the Dead's music. The Grateful Dead's music is more like just good feeling music, like happy to be alive music without sounding too commercial or poppy. Go munch on some mushrooms and frolic out in the forest to this sometime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWuQiGaIsso"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWuQiGaIsso
i have NEVER experienced jealousy, but my book has just been re-written your account of it all is awesome too... can't wait till i see them live for myself... a priority for sure... nice entheos combo! thanks guerillabedlam!!! oooodles or platonic love coming your way XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
