When 2012 happens and if we survive and the magnetic poles switch and screw up all technology that deals with satellites ex. dish network/direct tv, cell phones, gps etc..
What will technology thriving countries will do?
Will mainstream society function okay ?

Nothing will happen, just like nothing did for Y2K (and every other prophesied date that failed). Mainstream society will continue on as it always has.

Technology will always exist. Define technology. It's simply modifications for the everyday human life to make everything easier... Those old calculaters in the form of colored beads is also a form of technology.

If society did not exist, humanity would probably be more active.

what I mean by technology is stuff like satellite communications, and stuff that uses radio frequencies.

    2012 is bullshit.

I'm taking all bets and giving 10,000 to one odds.

2012 is a myth. I can name two doomsday things that never happened.

    1) Y2K
    2) 6/6/06

Every since the beginning of communication of man, man has been rambling on about the end. Here is the only three ways the end will come.

    1) Our own stupidity kills ourselves from war, global climate change, or some other thing we screwed up with.
    2) Our sun expands into a red giant, and engulfs the Earth.
    3) An astroriod, meteor, or comet comes from outer space and slams into Earth.

I have lost count of the Dooms Day prouncements. But heres a funny story:

In 68 or 69-- or maybe 67-- when I was in the 4Th grade, there was a prediction that CA was going to be hit with the BIG ONE at a certain time on a certain day and that LA was going to go swimming. Must of been one of the first such.

Anyway, I was in class, and 5 minutes before the designated hour the teacher fell silent and the class-- the smart 4th graders and the dumb, trouble making 5th graders (hey-- it was the 60's!) -- followed suit.

No one made a sound nor moved.

At 5 minutes after the hour-- alive and still 30 miles from Newport Beach-- the class resumed like normal, like nothing had happened--as if the tape had been paused.

At that point, I lost faith in Dooms Day!

I feel like a stalker to thetruthandpeaceseeker (I promise I'm not! I just find your posts interesting).
But I'm going to simply state that what happens, happens. If 2012 doomsday thing happens and the poles switch, you can bet chaos will ensue. It will be hell on earth, that's so sure. Humans will be forced to return to primal ways of living.
It is comforting though that every apocalypse or whatever that has been predicted, has not occurred.
But I would get away from the cities around that time regardless because people will go crazy in preparation for such happenings. Robbing, raping, all that will be much more prevalent.
You can add me on myspace, I'm fairly knowledgeable of those sorts of things: http://www.myspace.com/haha_winter

    It cool lol.
I think it would be a good thing if we all got back in touch with nature, people might actually care about Gaia again.
If the apocalypse happens it does and its the end of the world but if the poles just switch it could be a good thing.
I live in a peaceful small town lol I should be okay lol.

Not even the Mayans believed something would happen on 2012; don't fall for the crazy drama queens' bullshit.

Yeah, it'd be great eventually. People would learn that we can't be dependent on things other than our mother earth. I, myself, am I devout believer in the gaian philosophy. It might make people see that if they had just been living the way they should have been, this terrible thing wouldn't have been so devastating. but the power outages will fuck everything up for a long long time.

How do you know you didn't exist then and the Mayans didn't leave behind written records in what they believed.

I'm not sure whether he's (or she? too lazy to look it up) refering to me as the crazy drama queen, but I'll just reply anyway.
The Mayans believed there would be a change in thought, a new awareness if you will. The end of one time, and the start of a new one.
Science is the one who came up with the idea of the poles shifting.
I'm not saying I believe in it, but I'm not going to be arrogant and pretend like I know the future. Just gotta keep livin man. The world could end tomorrow for all we know.

Because there are many people who have spent their lifes' work researching Mayan culture. I have read and watched their thoughts and explanations, and other people's thoughts and explanations of their work.

I recommend you this website, since it's easy to link, and is an easy read

A few quacks and the History Channel have been able to make enough noise to completely bury all of their work, in this modern world, however.

    No.

There is no legitimate community of scientists that believes the poles will shift in 2012.

I read a book about it. So there IS a group of scientists somewhere. Plus, they have those stupid 2012 shows on all the time on the history channel. So I'm assuming they are at least slightly reputable.
look, I don't want to argue about it, because it's not necessarily something I believe in. I'm just saying I keep an open mind because you never know.

Books don't have to be written by legitimate sources, neither does TV. Might's'well say you watched the movie.
And I am saying that we already do know, based on over thousands of years of science and the dedication of scientists over those years, which is confirmed by the observations of functioning groups of scientists like NASA.

Internet sites don't have to be legitimate either it is more likely that a book is more credible than an internet site all I need to make one is a couple dollars a month and basic knowledge of programing.
