Does anybody ever dream about others that, in "real life", are dead? I mean, having dreams where there are encounters, situations...and in the dream thinking there is something lurking just in the corner of my mind - like the main other person in your dream is really dead!? I've been having that more and more lately...not always the same person, and certainly not my grandma...more like old boyfriend(s). It's kinda neat in a barely-creepy way. lol
Yes, I have dreamed about dead relatives and dead celebrities. Some of these dreams have been especially powerful and moving.
Hopefully next time I have one of these dreams, I will somehow remember, take control (make the dream lucid) and ask them if there is something they would like to tell me, some info...ya' know? I would also like to tell some of my dead people some things...good things...
That sounds like a really good idea. Just in case you're unable to make the dream lucid, I've found that the dead people I've dreamed about know these good things already.
Actually, I had a dream that I consider a visit from my ex-partner. It was 21 days after he died (a magical number for us) and it took place in the old New Orleans neighborhood where we first lived. Basically it was dream disconnect stuff but I found a really neat piece of antique furniture that I liked and wanted to drag it home. Jim just told me it's one more thing I'd have to get rid of. About what a dead guy would tell me. The other dream was a visit from my dead wife and it was erotic. She was in bed, top exposed and I could smell her armpits. It is the only time I recall smelling in a dream. BTW, I love the smell of natural armpits and Brenda knew that if she wanted some sniffing, licking, out of control sex to forego any deodorant. Anyhow, I was getting excited but Brenda just said "I gotta go." Just one more thing to give up I guess.
Shale! ) That is both funny, sad and hell, everything! I cannot say I have smelled arm pits, tho' I would NOT find that erotic - lol, but I have smelled a certain flower, one of my very favorites (moonflower) in a dream before. BUT I have never heard anyone else speak of smelling in dreams before, but my son. Often my dreams, no, always my dreams have a real quality about them...like everything looks like it does now....there's nothing hazy or "dreamlike", ya' know? I can also relate to your (dead) wife just getting up and leaving...one of my recurring "themes" is being separated in one way or the other right when they should NOT go. But I must say these last few dreams have been just like afternoon, weekends or such spent talking, walking, etc...but really no sex. Which with one of those guys was weird, come to think of it. anyway...lol
Any time I have tried lucid dreaming, as in KNOW I am dreaming, but still control it, I always, always have woken up.
I really meant to add your quote, SageDreamer, in that last bit I wrote...but it really looks like if I am able just to listen and remember (later), I'll be doing good.
just my opinion, mind you, but when we dream about the recently dead it is much, much more than just a dream...communication is the word I'm looking for.
Same here. I had a conversation with her and she even gave me some advice for my life......then she morphed into someone else...yeah, a little weird, but interesting.
oh my. uh oh Once years ago, when my life was definitely headed in the wrong direction, in another part of the state, my mother began to have dreams about me...she and my grandmother basically suddenly began to come down and just visit - on the weekends. They did this for a while, until my connection sorta "dried up" (lol) Probably saved my life. No, them coming down did save me and did what nothing else could have.
I talk to my Auntie all the time in my dreams...which is weird because I never really talked with her in real life my dog is still with me when I dream too
BBAD, that is just as cool as all get out! The aunt apparently wants you to know tho' y'all never may have really talked in life, she sees you...and cares now. The dog now...being an animal lover, and having had a few (not a whole lot of) dreams of my loved animals now crossed over...well, I'd love that, to have a dog I'd loved with me when I dreamt.
I couldn't see it then, Monkey Boy, but you are sooooo right. I did and am lucky enough to still have my mother.
All of the animals we have ever loved and have loved us are waiting on the Other Side. Is it any great mystery that they are there in dreams?
I've always thought so too, SageDreamer, and I must admit reading someone feeling that way is extremely validating.
