Hello everyone. I went to a small high school and i knew feminists, activists and vegetarians. There were some people who called themselves hippies but i think that's just a trendy thing to do now. I've gone to music festivals but where do the hippies go after that? Have any of these new hippies even heard of Jack Kerouac, Ken Kasey or Tom Robbins? With the state that the world is in, i have to wonder, where are the protests?? And the music....i shouldn't start with that. The more i bury myself in the books of the time, the more isolated i get. When i was fourteen i started a small tree hugger movement with my friends but they quickly lost interest. I'm eighteen now and already my one friend who planned to start a commune with me just got married. I know those were just dreams now. I guess it's just scary when you're left standing alone, knowing you're the only one responsible for you're own fulfillment and leaving everything you know, your whole materialistic world behind. I hope this makes some sense.
    Peace to all.

Haha, your post had like 3 different parts to it, but I've lost them all...

I don't think there are any real hippies today. The only ones who call themselves "hippies" are the ones who buy tiedye shirts instead of doing it themselves and think they are cool for doing so, or something like that....

These people who call themselves "hippies" have no idea about the 60s other than the drugs (imo), so I doubt many if any of them know who Jack Kerouac even is.

Haha fuck man, I've completely forgotten the whole point of this post. Its just so long and winding...care to break it down for me?

Haha, I read that you were a female...if you didn't mention it before I assumed you were... whatcha depressed for? To get rid of that depression, I suggest you get in a bear suit, and start doing pelvic thrusts! It doesn't matter to what kind of music, just start doing them!

Different kind of people on all high schools, i guess.
    So?
If they'd exist...whereever their heart desired; some to hell, some somewhere else.
I haven't, but then, I'm no hippie...i guess it wouldn't change much if i heard of them. [IMG]
There are dozens of protests around the world...i dunno if they change much, tho.
There are dozens of activists bands nowadays...ie Rage Against the Machine, but they're not playing anymore, i think...
Live today, not yesterday...however, learn from mistakes of past. (and i'm sure hippie movement wasn't oh so perfect)
    Hugging tress doesn't change anything.
By living in a commune you wouldn't change much of the world, anyways.
Ahm, makes a little sense, but you live TODAY and try to change TODAY's world. Hippies are a matter of past.

    love,
    b

Have to agree with Borut on this one.

Hippy is just a word. Don't get hung up on fitting a, let's face it, meaningless stereotype. Of course you'll end up isolated. There are many glorious people in the word (some assholes too, but I'm an optimist)
Okay they aren't all tree hugging Kerouac freaks, but so fecking what. These are your people in your world. Eithier learn to love them or be a totally miserable outcast (been there and it's no fun)

Be the change you wish to see in the world. Quit sitting around moping and start actually living, with an open heart and mind the right people will come to you. Or maybe you'll come to them. Same diffrence.
Search the net, your library, health food store, phone book. There are bound to be local groups of interest to you.

I used to try and do the whole hippy thing, but it was ridiculous. So then I just though 'fuck the whole damn thing'. Now I'm just Sage. Perhaps still have some hipp tendencies and such but really don't care.

Don't get hung up on the past, it's an oft quoted phrase but the sixties are over. Sure they might seem to have been great, but it's time to move on and create a whole new future.

Yes it is scary to move on, but it has to be done on some level. You will never find true happiness otherwise. It just takes a single step and leap. Then you're in and things work out.

Much luck, love and blessings :)

PS I hadn't heard of Ken Kasey, perhaps because he's last name is Kesey, unless that's a whole other person.
Have devoured much Kerouac (fair writer, but on the road is overated)
Heard of Tom Robbins, never read his stuff though.
The music is alright, but than most contemporary pop at least. Listen out and you'll find a niche (I must profess, mine is country music)

where are the hippies??? what the fock are the hippies today???
the young hippies from years ago called trhemselves hippies, but look at the now, most of them look like a normal go to job-go to bed person, and are they hippies??? yes, they still are.

what does it means to be a hippie today? all the spiritual aspects from years ago have changed, the real hippies years ago are so different than the hippies today. the daily hippies lives in their spirits, live like you want to be, don`t follow that stupid clothing mode, and don`t listen to that stupid all time music. we just disagreeing all the popular things of these dayz, and years ago every hippy followed the same mode, if the one got a new jeans with the biggest pipes, you got to make sure you make yourself a new one with even wider pipes, and the hippy music you heard everywhere, and only the older disagreed that.

so the hippies are not hippies anymore, BUT I AM A HIPPIE!

PS: sorry for my englisch, i live in amsterdam, and feel a little stonedand i still can`t write real englisch! i would want to say a lot more, but this some stupid ideas of me took me three sigarets and an half joint, next time more of my stupid thoughts, i`m tired pfff.
