Yay another funky dread thread! What I would do is... Put you dreads in between layers of newspaper and have a friend iron them to soak up the wax. Be sure to dispose of the used paper as it is a severe fire hazard. Then make sure your hair is completely dry after you wash it at your leisure with your favorite shampoo.
if it still smells funky after the washing and drying etc etc. you can invest in smelly scents to put on them. there's a thread around here somewhere. should be pretty recent. sometimes dreads start to smell mildewy if they aren't dried fully between washes. that could be your problem.
Somehow I Very Much Doubt It, The O.P. Only Washes Them Every Two Weeks.... Unless He Lives In A Tropical Climate, With A Humidity Level At A Constant 99.99999%, I Very Much Doubt That Is The Prob... Cheers Glen.
AVC has the power to overcome uber smells and as a good deep cleanser you can't go wrong. This smell might be God punishing you for using wax though :s
It is hard to remember that there are actually people that use wax...living on this forum tricks you into thinking everyone's locks are free from it
The "actual people that use wax" usually know better than to speak about their wax use. Wax hold in moisture and dirt thats why your ass stinks! For Chrissakes, people, how many times do I have to suggest the use of a blowdryer before people actually listen???
QUESTION:- Just How Many Hours Would It Take The Average 1400watt Hairdryer To Dry A Set Of Wax Filled Dreads.... ANSWER:-...Not Hours, More Like Days..... Cheers Glen.
Nevermind whether they're filled with wax or not. A hairdryer seems to have no effect whatsoever on my dreads, it still takes ages for mine to dry with a hairdryer. Sunshine works much better for me. Anyway isn't this thread just someone trolling again?
Wow, some of you need to get off your high horse. Thank you to the ones that have actually bothered posting a helpful response. I guess some people think that their post count dictates their place in the heirarchy or the board. Guess what? It doesn't.
Well, let's just say for arguments sake you're not a troll. There are various things that you can do to prevent / get rid of nasty smells in dreads. 1) Wash your hair properly, pretty much just like you used to wash your "normal" hair. 2) Don't use shampoo, or at least not too frequently. And if you do, then make real sure you get it all out. 3) Wash your hair more regularly with baking soda and tea tree oil, still make sure you rinse properly though. 4) Assuming your locks are mature enough to handle it, do regular washes with vinegar or ACV, (work out your own ratios). Once a month is a rough guide. It is optional as to whether you rinse it out or not. If you don't rinse, let them dry in the sun if possible. 5) Make sure your hair gets dry after you wash it by squeezing it out properly with hands and then a towel, (microfibre towels work best). Leave them loose to dry (preferably in the sun or fresh air), don't tie them up whilst they're still wet. 6) As long as they are completely dry through to the centre of the dread, then you should be fine to wash them when you feel like they need washing, just don't be an idiot and wash them twice a day or something like that. 7) Don't try and cover up the smell by using sprays or any other smelly shampoos or something like that. This would be merely masking the problem rather than correcting it. 8) Lastly, all of the above are completely opinionated answers that I personally believe help. I'm sure there are people that disagree, particularly with the second point and the one above.
It's not an issue of post count it's an issue of...I'm flummoxed. And dismayed. I hate the stereotypes that dreads equally dirty hair.
If I were you I'd stop using wax. i don't have a problem with it and I have used it but after 2 years I think it's done all it can. I used to use it to hold everything together when they first started and when I stopped I did a couple of deep cleanses and then they got real messy. But after about a month they locked up tighter then before and look and felt better. Post a pic of your dreads cause I bet they're not as bad as you think they are. And on the subject of a hair dryer, they literally do nothing to my dreads! I've been there for like an hour and nothings really happened! And by the way, if you stick around you'll get used to some ppl on here who don't like helping a new member. They'd rather upset them and keep the active members list down to about 20. lol GL
what do you mean hair dryer "literally do nothing to your dreads"? they just never dry, ever? didn't you wax at first too?
