I am so proud of organizations like wikileaks.org. It's obvious (although not to many) that our major news organizations can no longer be relied upon, as the majority are controlled by corporate interests.

We need this sort of transparency to people know what's really going on in the world. I'm astounded that we've been at "war" for 9 years now and you hardly hear a word of it on a daily basis.

It really is as if our politicians would prefer we get caught up in our daily lives of consumerism to outdo the neighbor and forget that we are currently fighting two wars, and have troops stationed actively in over 135 countries. Does anyone else find that obscene?

Bravo Wikileaks. It's time we use our technology and networks to start holding people accountable, and become a more informed society.

Maybe you should actually watch the news sometime, it's on every single day. The PBS News Hour posts the names of every dead soldier every day. Sorry dude, you don't know what you are talking about. I'm listening to an interview about Afghanistan with Robert Gates right now on ABC.

This is absurd. The Afghan people who have been helping the U.S. and NATO troops have just had a target painted on their backs by Wikileaks and the vast majority of the stuff they posted has already been reported on by the press, without the names of people who are sure to be killed by the Talaban.

I don't care what your position is about the war, if someone gives information to our enemies he is our enemy, and if he lives here he is a traitor.

If you aren't informed, it's because you aren't paying attention, not because no one is reporting on it.

Have you ever watched soldier's videos and compared them to what you get on the news? You can't honestly tell me you think our major news agencies are properly informing the American people. Just think about how many people watch Fox and pass it off for a legitimate news source. I was also reading an article about the news stations they stream into our military bases overseas. The majority are ultraconservative right wing.

Although I don't agree about disclosing information that directly puts living individuals into harms way, the media has done a great job vilifying wikileaks and taking the attention off of the atrocities being committed by our US military.

You can just look at how many soldiers come back and immediately join the anti-war effort to see things are not good over there for either party.

On a more financial side, have you ever watched the documentary "Iraq for Sale?" People wonder why our taxes get raised and our national debt doubles.

The dangers to living individuals aside, wikileaks is providing a valuable service to the world. Hopefully people will start to question the actual material of the documents more than the people releasing them.

Have you watched the Frontline documentaries on the wars? So far I haven't heard anything from the Wikileaks documents that I didn't already know and reporters around the world are saying the same. Two major news agencies met with Wikileaks and released information from the documents before he posted them, but they both agreed that there wasn't much new news. Reporters are risking their lives every day in war zones to inform the public; do you want to tell one of them upon his return that he isn't giving the public the truth?

Instead of arguing about whether or not these documents contain anything new, why don't you make a list of a few items in them that you think are new news.

I have no doubt that was the Bush administration's project.

It isn't the job of the news media to do that, all I've seen is them reporting on what our leaders and the Pentagon have said. Maybe you should change the channel and find a new news stand. I live 15 miles from the nearest WalMart, 25 miles from the nearest town of any size, can't get cable or high speed and I seem to know more than most of you people here about what's going on in my country.

The President and the Pentagon are vilifying Wikileaks, and rightfully so. He gave our enemies classified information, which puts him in the position of "our enemy." Responsible news agencies took the same documents, redacted the names and any information that could be used by the Talaban and reported the information in them.

I'm not seeing how this proves that anyone is hiding anything, war is hell.

Haven't heard of that one, but, again, the information is not new. Frontline has been doing documentaries on this stuff for 6 years, or more.

Just list a few things that you've seen in these documents that is "new news." I keep hearing all of this clutter about the "Truth" finally coming out, yet no mention of exactly what it is.

Anderson Cooper and CNN are ultraconservative right wing ?
They must stream other media there too then?

You mean the U.S. hiring a mercenary army that indiscriminately shoots civilians, covers it up, comes under scrutiny and changes it's name while it continues as if nothing happened.
    and
Haliburton getting exclusive no bid contracts and selling the military inferior and germ infested products that harm our military personnel.

I could go on, but I don't want to give away the plot.

I guess maybe saying that they are all "new" truths isn't exactly correct, and I congratulate you on being an informed individual. Unfortunately, 90% of our population would never hear a single thing of the atrocities over there. With the majority of people in the world, you have to fore feed them information to make them aware. The info may always be out there, but it's not nearly as easy to find.

I'm supporting them in the sense that people need to wake up and realize that there are some awful things going on. I don't think a lot of people realized exactly what is happening over there.

It's tough to talk about things without generalizing. It's undermines a lot of points and debates, but I'm saying there is a very large portion of the population that wouldn't give the war, or some of the dirty things we are doing a second thought without an organization like Wikileaks.

I don't agree we should be putting people directly in harms way, but we should no longer be finding about these crazy (many times corrupt) things 25 years after they happen.

A couple of minor points here.

People are uninformed because they don't care, not that they care but are uninformed.

Why is this Wikileaks thing such so big, because it was reported on by the mainstream press. And I'd almost be willing to bet money that most of the people in Wikileak's camp have not even read the documents. Do you really think that people who were too unconcerned to tune in the news or read a paper are going to spend the time to actually read what Fox is going to tell them while they eat dinner and avoid interacting with their kids?

Many people are too busy enriching their own selfish lives to take time to form their own opinions, especially when Fox can do it for them in 20 minutes or less twice a week.

I thought about this. 90,000 documents read? Erm, possibly not. You have to think they tried. The three newspapers given this info chose to censor what they reported.

I saw an interview with 2 of those, they redacted the names of the Afghans who helped us and information the Talaban could use against us. Why does anyone need to know the names of informers or how our troops conduct their movements?
