You know what's funny, my favorite ska song is quite possibly Skatanic >.< What instruments do you play?
I play electric guitar, acoustic, and bass. I want to learn to play the djembe, the saxophone, the cello, and the upright bass. How about you man?
Nothing well =P I really like pianos and synthesizers, and would like to one day learn guitar or drums. My cousin played a saxophone - but he learn from school. As far as for electric, acoustic, and bass guitars - you can usually find tabs online for all sortsa songs - just Google it =)
Ya man, piano ain't that hard, just grab a book and go through it, and then another, and another.. i mean if you really want to learn.. I'm a beginner actually but I'm learning saxaphone is great!! Ya I could just get some tabs, but I want to learn like all the theory behind it and what not..
Hell yeah! Saxophone player here! Ska talk: Look Jimi, I know lot of players who came out from traditional school or jazz standards and play the ska style. Ska is not that technical hard. I advice you to listen to music and try practice what you heard. If you play some instruments, like you said, it can“t be that hard for you.
If you're talking about playing ska on guitar it is actually quite simple. Most ska chords on guitar are just barre chords, only you mostly hit the higher strings and not so much the lower. This is done by only hitting on an up-stroke, and on the down strokes just touch the strings instead of pushing down to make the chord, so that it mutes. I don't know if this makes any sense but if I were there in person I could show you easily. There should be some good youtube tutorials on doing a basic ska/reggae rhythm using up strokes. After that it's just a matter of picking the right chords (again they are mostly barre chords), but also sometimes inversions of chords (like doing an open D chord, but up on the 5th fret or the like). If you need any other tips let me know. I'm not great at it but can play some ska on guitar.
