I was just wondering if there are any communes that are willing to take in young adult runaways [ages 21 and 22]. My friend and I just need to escape for a while [her a BAD RELATIONSHIP] and my depression. I just know I'll be so much happier out of Florida. We don't really have any money [she had a kid, but the kid wouldn't be coming and I lost my job due to relocation] but if any are willing to take us in we're really extremely hard workers, and we're willing to find jobs as well, childcare even. We just want out of Florida desperately, can be in any state. I know some of you won't agree to this decision. I'll still be in contact with my Family [I'm not close with them and she has none] and all that but I just need to get away for myself, for a while. I think going away and doing some hard work will help us. So far I've found the Haley House and I'm really fond of them, but we need more options. My friend prefers California and I prefer anything North [as I have miss New York sooo much and have since I moved here at age 7] I have nothing keeping me here, my time in this state has been pure poison [and I know life is what you make it, but I gave up] I hate depending on people to take care of me. I'm just looking for a place that will help us get on our own feet, and hopefully find a place that we can call home.

you're 21 or 22 lol I think that's a lil too young to start running from your problems. You musta fucked up at my age.

Smoke weed and it'll take you both from your problems.

There's a lot of trolls and sock puppets out there making lame, rude replies to legitimate questions (the first reply on this thread fits into this category). Never mind the bollocks. I haven't checked out this site too well, but I think there is a "communes" thread that may be of interest to you. If there is a regional rainbow gathering in your area, you might want to go there and network. There's generally alot of helpful people there.

You may have to hunt around to find them, but there are definitely places out there where you can get room and board in exchange for labor and be part of a community.

You may want to check out the rainbow sticky thread. There is some info there about the lightlines.

Here are a couple of numbers from the sticky
    Florida Lightline (352) 463-0450
    California Rainbow (916) 747-6269

They will probably be focused on rainbow events, but they may be able to give you some info on communes. Be warned, often the line numbers are out of date or otherwise non-functioning.

You may want to check out a book by Bob Flaws called "Treating Depression with Chinese Medicine" (not exactly sure of the title, something like that). So basically, 30 mins. of aerobic excercise a day, meditation/qi gong, dietary modifications like avoiding raw/cold foods and dairy products, acupuncture and chinese herbs can be helpful. Also escaping your bad situation could help, if you can get yourself into a better situation. Leaving does not guarantee that you will not end up someplace that sucks worse.

Best wishes to you on your journey, brother.

I think that age is a little too old to be running away from problems.

try the directory of intentional communities. please understand however, that almost anywhere you go, you may be expected to work hard. possibly harder than where you were. for instance, though i could be wrong about what it`s like now. east wind required 48 hrs per week of work. on the otherhand if ya just wanna escape just live on the "streets". realtively near where you are. that way, if things don`t work out you can always, "come back". i`m actually fairly near east wind. & i could possibly use a bit of help. however ya gotta often provide your own transportation, & food. you may eventually discover that some people are worse off than you. & that in this process you may endup helping others than yourselves, i would hope that to be the case. not all communes are "flowery".

YES THANK YOU! I know running away isn't always the answer... I'm curious to go to a rainbow gathering. I'm in Tampa.

I agree. What makes you think life will be better if you run away. Also, your friend is leaving her kid...I feel sorry for the kid, it's going to be fucked up when it grows up. What happened life is not turning out how you expected it to? Sorry but that is just life. I have had many problems in my past and more to come in my future, but I have to just deal with it and move on.

I want to run away to Florida and learn sailing. I heard about Rainbow Island from a friend that worked for Ely Lilly as drug tester. He kept an air kayak stashed to get back and forth. Good luck which ever way the four winds take you.:)
Sometimes moving on is the best way to deal with ones problems.
