So every few years I get bronchitis; the last time was 3 years ago. And I'm sure its because I smoke. I have been planning on quiting smoking when I get home from visiting family which is in 2 days. But starting yesterday I started feeling bronchitis coming on. :( The weather changed here (it started getting cool) and that's when I started feeling sick so that may have something to do with it.

But anyways...everytime I get this I go to a doctor and they prescribe medicine and it doesn't seem to work. I end up sick for like a month. I hate doctors. They never seem to help. So, I don't want to go that route this time. Does anyone know of anything natural I can try to feel better and get over this quicker?

Nothing "natural" is going to help with Bronchitis. You need an antibiotic, as there is very likely a lung infection (by the way, penicillin is natural, as are many other pharmaceuticals). Take Mucinex, 2 tablets twice a day, with plenty of water. This will help clear anything out of your lungs. Avoid cough suppresants and antihistamines unless you clearly need them. You want to cough to help clear your lungs, and antihistamines can cause the mucuous and lung secretions to thicken.

Bay Leaves, the spice, have some antibiotic activity. Try adding a few to everything you cook. You could also try Zicam, which is homeopathic, and take a multivitamin, a b-50 complex, 500mg vit C twice a day, and vit E 400iu, and take zinc once a day for 7 to 14 days to boost your immune system. Buy some eucalyptus oil, place some in a pot with water, and boil it. Breathing the vapor will help to open up your lungs. It is too late to try echinecea. Aspirin may help some with the inflammation (bronchitis = inflammation of the bronchioles)

I still think you will need a doc, though, if it is true bronchitis.

    Good luck.

I have a recepie for a tea that does wonders for problems with the lungs. It will not cure but it eases the symptoms.
    1/4 oz. dried lemon peel
    1/4 oz. dried orange peel
    1/2 oz. dried mullein leaves
1/2 oz. angelica root(can use leaves but its not as potent)
    1/2 oz. burdock root
    1/2 oz. coltsfoot leaves

Place the herbs in a jar and mix. Use 2 teaspoons with boing water. Let it steep for 10 miuntes befor drinking.

It really doesn't taste that good, the lemon and orange peel is to improve the flavor I think and I usually add some honey. It may not taste that great but it works pretty well.

I just read about Causticum on a homeopathic website.

I get bronchitis sometimes twice a year. Non smoker. I think maybe it's because I was raised by doctors who shoved antibiotics down my gullet any time I so much as sneezed, so now my immune system is fucked. Could be wrong, don't really know. I'm just researching all this now. But I am interested in trying anything new, seeing as how my job requires my voice to be healthy at ALL times.

So anyone heard of this Causticum and/or tried it? I'd be very interested and grateful to know any of y'alls' experiences with it.

    Thanks

Licorice tea is good. I think it tastes disgusting, but when I'm sick I can feel how it's helping my throat so I gulp it down. Breathing eucalyptus or wintergreen is good too.

I've read that willow bark tea has the same active ingriendients as aspirin. Aspirin is good for helping your body fight illnesses in general.

Willow is about 1/4 tp 1/10 as strong as aspirin. As Photo said, true bacterial bronchitis needs to be treated by antibiotics. A doctor should diagnose you before prescribing. Take the Mucinex with food. It does work, but it make me really nauseous if I take in on an empty stomach, and you NEED to drink a lot of water to help this drug work. But all this does is break up the mucus (actually it thins it so you can cough or blow it out.) The antibiotics KILL the infection and then allow your body to heal.

Garlic capsules can also help with mucus as well as infection, but the best thing would be to see a doctor. You can be sick and fatigued for MONTHS with untreated bronchitis. Pleae see a HCP.
