I’ve become somewhat desensitized when it comes to squirrels because at least once a week I’ll see one lying squashed on the side of the road after being hit by a car or a truck :(

Not suppost to be man... Squirrel awareness.

Why is it that when dogs get hurt it's a horrible tragedy, but when rodents get hurt it's a "funny parody"? Do animal rights not extend to them?

I'd go and kick the person back. Even though I see many killed by cars, what difference does that make. I've heard of many people getting murdered, I'd still step in if I could.

I’m sure it was the humane thing to do after the squirrel was injured and not from malice aforethought

a healthy squirrel would have no problem outrunning a human..
most local ordinances keep people from handling wild animals..
I wouldnt over react, due to the circumstances, maybe squirrel was RABID and that can happen from time to time..
most squirrels however do not carry rabies, this is more commonly found in carnivorous and omnivorous animals..

I have squirrels and chipmunks all over the place and while they let us live here, they are fast little things when on the move. I have a 125 year old butternut tree so they have fixings for the year. I put out nuts and bread in the winter for them. So they are tame enough.

They sit in my garage and look at me. I have one that runs along the railing of the veranda and torments my dogs....really, I think the little bugger smiles at them.

If someone could catch them, I wonder if something is wrong with it.

I would still hate to see anyone bother or hurt them.

hmm.. Intresting you should say that, because a squirrel can run up to about 14mph, and the human top speed is 27mph. So actually, many people could easily run down a squirrel (assuming there were no trees around) and proceed to kick it as much as they wanted.

I wouldn't think that you of all people would make such a mistake...

Ive caught squirrels with bear hands, so yes its possible.. you fail to see the advantage in size, just because a tall creature can move fast, it does not gain much speed from the get go as a squirrel can. i also dont think a person can run very fast bent over trying to grad a running squirrel.. they can also leap and dodge..
I caught my squirrel climbing down a tree.. i then tossed it on the ground where my dumb friend shot it 3 times with small game load..

Some squirrels deserve to be kicked. Some do not.
