and dude here is pop music...it's not like these people are bad musicians, i think it's just the luxury of technology and new recording studios that makes alot of these musicians complacent, and they are trying to go with 'what's in'.

hey pal read the whole post including the last sentence next time. i said thiers good music out thier, with people who can play. but alot of times its not on the charts. To not agree with my theory is one thing, to totally disregard it is moronic. So please, save the 3,000 you tubes of examples of this and that. I would post some limp bizcut and nickelback for ya but frankly i don;t wanna have to listen them .

is lady gaga not on the charts? or do you think it's mainly bad musicians that make the charts? I'm not trying to be condescending i'm trying to understand your rationale here. I really don't think musicians are that much less talented these days, but i'm looking more for insight, sorry i use cuss words a lot of the times on here.

theres only like maybe 15-20 really memorable good bands that came from the 60s-70s.. it would be a little off to say that only 20 bands in entire rock were good..

Now if you want rock, you kind of have to get into different genres.. As far as I know there really isn't any cool bands anymore trying to produce a vintage sound.. that's always been a dream of mine get a band together of just vintage instruments, rickenbacker, a Fender Rhodes piano.. leslie speakers things like that..

Its clear the thread starter sees a great differnce between todays and yesterdays artists. And obvisouly the older artists grew up in a completely world then todays artists. So, perhaps the awnser is thier. Or not. I think its worth investing. They feel something big is not the same.

no you goon, What the fuck kind of jump in logic is that?

Using comparisons though from bands listed in the thread I think Radiohead is better/more talented than The Mamas and the Poppas, I think Tool is better/more talented then Iron Butterfly, I think Muse is better/more talented than fucking Donovan.

hey,you said you wanted to shit on my entire theory. So i assumed you disagreed with everything in it. Other wise, you would have broken down point by point instead of just posting a video and basicaly saying fuck you to me.

and if todays artists are not that bad, and are just letting technolgy make them lazy, shame on them then. The beatles embraced new technogly but hardly made them lazy. So they would lose either way. Perhaps its not that 60's artsts were trying to be cool. they MADE whats cool. They broke new ground. And maybey the only thing i can say in defense of todays artists , is that so much ground broken was broken in the 60's and 70's, ( and a little of the 80's) that nothing they can do will ever be as shocking. Hearing srt. peppers, or ramones first album, black sabbaths first record, kraftwerks first record or whoever for the first time must have been unreal. Becasuse it was truley new, and you didn't know what was going to happen next. You didn;t know that kinda sound even existed.

I'm too old to be credible on the music of today. All I know is that when I watch SNL it strikes me as being more about the presentation of the artist than the music being made. I do, however, see the music on other shows like Letterman and Fallon (and previously, Conan) and I've noted that it nearly always seems to sound like something I've heard before. For someone as old as me, the melodies are all used up maybe.

Spoken like a true 23 year old who has no clue. There are 15-20 memorable artists from the 60 or 70's that are STILL rockin TODAY, but there were many many more back in that time that were "really memorable".

You're post really made sense but I as well had the urge to emphasize on the last sentence.

I agree with you, lots of todays musicians aren't less talented at all. As for me, of course I notice Lady Gaga and other music in the charts as well but I tend to ignore it. I'm not even discussing here if she's talented or not, since it's not even rock.

I'm already aware of good rock music today so I kind of get tired of threads dissing todays rock because the threadstarter and other folks haven't looked around enough. I don't blame them cause if you're not into todays psych or groovy rock you can get dissappointed fast indeed (since Brian jonestown massacre for example is counted to this kind of music as well and I don't find them particulary satisfying either..). Fact is there's really a lot of good rock being made out there, even if you don't like Tool, Muse or Radiohead (like me :p). Not saying these bands aren't talented, they just don't have the sound I like so much about rock.

a few rock groups i thought were worthwhile in the 80s and 90s

    the fall
    swans
    stereolab
    tortoise

    and a little non-rock:

    boogie down productions
    zoviet france
    scientist
    nusrat fateh ali khan

    so it wasn't all bad . . .

have not listened to much in the last decade, sadly, remember hearing a blind duo from mali[?] that i liked, and an uzbek girl, but . . .

90's and last decade was full of good rock. Not so fond of 80's rock in general, except the hard rock/metal in that decade. Not the hair metal stuff btw. :p
