Thanks, I don't think you can call it a quote until it is quoted though This makes me wonder, does 'paddle out' mean leave the water to you?
fair call could be a double entendre If in doubt with life.. paddle out for a surf.. which makes sense as it clears your head. Of if you're already out surfing.. and you're doubting your ability with the waves.. paddle out of the break. To save your self and fellow surfers potential injuries. head has just exploded
People seem to be more curious than spiteful, but there's always the "aren't you supposed to not wash dreads?" questions and "how do you make them?" questions... Anyone who gives me hassle is usually ignorant about what locks are really like, and as such I scare them off by trying to make them smell my locks If only they tried they'd see they're all fruity smelling...
I've never really had anything nasty. I get a lot of comments about drugs, asking if I know where to get them or 'if I smoke the sweet weed to go with that hair', but that never bothers me. Apart from those it's just the usual 'your dreads are falling out' which is the most anoying but you get over it
2 years in people are still telling me "oh but its not dreaded at the top, the top couple of inches, its not dreaded" YES I KNOW THAT'S HOW DREADS WORK NOW LEAVE ME ALONE WITH YOUR JUDGING NOT-EDUCATED-ABOUT-DREADS ness
I get that aswell! It's so funny how much people think they know about you just because you have dreads!
I get quite a lot of positive comments, especially on the nights out while clubbing - guys use my hair as an ice breaker I haven't really had anything nasty yet, sometimes a bit weird questions, but generally nothing too bad. And my hair is a mess and I love it! Just always smile to people who stare at me
i have only had mine for probably a month or so, and i havent really had anything bad said about them. some people tell me they look awesome, or i look cute, which is cool. the only bad remark i have gotten was from my friends "redneck"ish dad. "you look like a sheep dogs ass" haha "only black people are supposed to have dreads" alright, pal.
I only asked because I took it to mean something like, "if in doubt about whether you just saw a shark or not, then get out of the water," also, my non-surfing friends always get confused because they usually think that "paddling out" means paddling out of the water (not paddling out to the outside vs. paddling in to the inside)... I like both of your interpretations much more. I should pay more attention to the first one :cheers2:
Nice stupid people: are you trying to make dreadlocks? Everyone else: Failed sneaky snide comments, and shameless staring. Today I was in Wendys with a semi long haired non dreaded friend, and the employees (our age) where pretending to talk on the phone in unnatural angles to take pictures of me, and they made several passes pretending to work in pairs, muttering about us, and us being high (which we where) and I don't know what all else. It was kind of funny, although I felt like I was in a zoo.
Epic. That's pretty cool. What's your routine? I like yummy smelling hair. As sad as this is it is SO typical of the age group. Folks tweet pics that they took on the sneak all of the time. It's like geez, I know sometimes you're all "holy shit" at what you see but don't cross people's boundaries. Although I will say sometimes there's a little thing called known and acceptable risks. If you act toked out of your head because you are toked out of your head...people will point you out. I haven't gotten many reactions about my hair yet. I get more looks/whispers about my husband and I or the fact that I'm in pj pants (especially my Dale Sr ones). I haven't really been out since I dyed my hair purple. When it was vibrant red I got compliments about it and some stares from scene girls. There's no law you have to be 5 feet and stick thin with converses to dye your hair though so....fuck it.
I was at a truck stop somewhere along the california oregon border and this old crazy looking guy was walking by, he must have seen me from the corner of his eye because he did a serious double take. He must have jumped back five feet to get another look at me before asking "he does your hair?!" Being terrified and not knowing what to say, I replied "myself" He let out the most horrid sound which I resonably attribute to laughter and screamed on the top of his lungs "FIRE YOURSELF!!". he proceeded to the stations little market and got caught buying alcohol for minors they told him to leave but he decided to stay and scream at everyone. They called the cops and was taken away. Moral to the story dont mess with dread heads because god is on our side.
The only negative comments I've received about my hair is from my own family. My cousin in particular...everytime we talk on the phone the first thing she asks is if my hair is still knotted up and her tone of voice is kinda harsh. I told my daughter last night that I was thinking of shaving my head and she said..."But then you'll go from lookin like a freak to even a bigger freak!' lol. However...I do get some nice words about my dreads too. Everytime I see my good ol pal Alisa she always squeels with excitement for a second about my hair....mostly cuz she used to have dreads and I think it just makes her excited to see them. Another good friend of mine always talks about dreading her hair when she see's me too and she gushes about how beautiful they are. When Im with my man we get all kinds of dumb comments together.....one guy asked my man if he ever tried to smoke his hemp necklace...the guy was a total crackhead. We get a lot of Bob comments and people asking us if we have pot or if we wanna smoke with them...which always cracks me up.
i've missed job opportunities due to my hair (and piercings... and tats.. haha) but not much else in the way of negative comments - most of the time people tell me they like my hair, or ask questions like 'how did you get dreads?', or 'how do you wash them?' - most people are kinda suprised and confused at the answers, but it's all good an old man once yelled at me for being tattooed though *shrug*
