Well, hello there. I am a new member and also the proud new owner of dreadlocks. (awesome right?) anyways, I'm having some problems keeping some of my beautiful new locks knotty, i've backcombed, palmrolled, twisted, braided, pull 'em apart and redone them, waxed them, and im out of ideas, now i know they are new and wont be polished for several months to a year, im just fearful of inter-dread tangling and unwanted matting.... HELP!

If you don't want tangling and matting, you have the wrong hair style.

Just keep ripping them apart. They're gonna try to eat each other but you can't hold them seperate every hour of the day kwim?

It's ok, when time comes and you haven't paid attention to your hair for a while, you'll actually enjoy seeing congos :D

But if you don't like them at all just rip them apart during washings. It's easier to rip when under water.

But hey, welcome to the forum! There are a bunch of inspiring timelines here to keep you motivated.

please see the thread called: read this or risk being flamed.

for the first 6 months or so you may want to rip a few on a daily basis. not the whole head at once or you'll just be pissed off and in pain. after they get more mature, you won't have to rip as often.

stop backcombing, waxing, palm rolling, and everything else you mentioned that your doing and as Vig said just rip a few here and there. The first year is a bitch. Theyre gonna be funky and out of control...but thats a good thing because it all leads to knotted dready glory!
