I've been spending a lot of time lately listening to recordings of his various lectures and i really respect his ideas. He has obviously put a lot of thought into consciousness, humanity, and psychedelics.

I would absolutely love to find out that his stoned age theory is true. But as it stands there is just no empirical evidence for it. Its more than possible, but so are a lot of other theories.

I do agree, though, that psychedelics must have had a major impact on the way early humans thought about their world, even if it didn't influence the physical evolution of their brains. Can you imagine a prehistoric mammal with an oversized monkey brain eating a bunch of mushrooms without prior knowledge of them... his/her whole world would be absolutely turned inside out.

This just brings up the question, what is truth? With anthropology, many things cannot be proven, but the evidence is sufficient enough to 'prove' them. No one can touch a psychedelic without losing their scientific credibility, so Terence McKenna was pretty much the first and last qualified person to research this theory. Until someone else can show that it cannot be true, Im gonna believe it, if only fore the reason that it makes more sense than any other theory Ive ever heard.

I read a piece on tryptamines and hallucinogens. It blew my mind, and also made me realize psilocybin is a tryptamine.

Yeah its a form of DMT is not?
    (O-phosphoryl-4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine)

Could you link us to this piece or is it not on the internet?

Sorry for an extremely late reply but I have since lost it. I got it in a torrent about... tryptamines? DMT? IDK? It was something about "Logos" and how psilosin and mescaline both have the power of DMT. There was some other stuff about adrenaline and its molecular similarities...

All I know is it wasn't DMT: The Spirit Molecule but I'm pretty sure it was grouped in a torrent with it.

For those of you really interested in this theory or at least along these lines you should check out a book called supernatural by graham hancock. He is an anthropologist and if I remember correctly had no interest in psychedelics at all like until his 40's when he repeadetly he kept seeing mushroom worship in all the ancient cave art he studied. Its a bit more of a scientific approach to me but still he has conceded into some of the mysticism of some of these cultures. Its been awhile since I read either of them but I know hancock supposes cave art was created directly from the psychedelic experience. He gives examples of the mushroom symbols obviously , distorted figures and animals taking on human features or like hybrid human/animals. Interesting stuff and it truly is hard to imagine and interesting to ponder humans digesting these amazing psychedelics with having never seen television or a single movie, erowid or been able to plop their ass on a couch or matress and all the luxuries of modern day.

Food of the Gods definitely convinced me it was inevitable that mushrooms and early man come into contact. Idk mushrooms have never helped me see (a major tenant of the theory) even at just .5g-2, and Ive also never had mushroom orgys lol, but at the same time it would be uneducated to say they did not heavily contribute to the growth of early cultures philosophically, spirituality, attitudes and probably body chemistry.

I find his stoned ape theory pretty ridiculous - we didn't need psychedelics to evolve to where we are now, but currently they could help humanity evolve even further than most people could even imagine.

same with his 2012 timewave zero theory, its completely bogus. if I remember correctly he got the inspiration for the timewave zero theory when he was tripping with his brother on ayauhausca in 1970 and an alien told him some secret math combination, which he then developed into timewave zero... yeah like that's sooooooooooo credible;)

There is no possible way to ever predict the future, only the present moment can change the future - and that's all there is to it.

I find time wave zero more ridiculous then stoned ape theory. Alot of time wave zero supposedly correlates with the I ching, some Asian Mathematical system I know nothing about and the Mayan calendar which I believe jerry bruckheimer or some Hollywood director explained thoroughly.

Doesn't he say 2012 is the peak of novelty or something like that?
Why is that hard to believe as being plausible?

True but I think he goes further and says stuff like time travel being possible in 2012 and some other bold claims. The way I've seen him plot it out on this graph seems like he was pretty selective on the events he chose for the rises and dips in the waves in past.

because there's NO possible way to ever predict the future like that - as of now.

Thank god i'm not the only person who feels the same way.

Yes you can't predict what's going to happen in 2012 but there is such thing as Intuition. And my intuition has been hinting along to me about 2012 before i even knew what 2012 was.

In my opinion i could see things as intense as Time Travel taking place from 2012-onward.

2012 is going to be fucking GIANT. Period. It's not based on anything other than the core of my gut and intuition. And every day seems to be more and more evidence of this intuition. That's all i can say.
