California's Prop 8, Forbidding Gay Marriage Struck Down!

Translates to "This is awesome, I'm so happy for them, but gee, I hope no one thinks I'm gay for saying that"


The automatic "I'm not gay" thing, kind of just as annoying as this whole prop 8 debacle. Once this legal wrangle is settled, there will still be those that say stuff like "Yay for gay rights....Oh, but I'm not gay"

Not that you really have to give a shit, but dont bother saying one if you are going to say the other

I have no doubt that gay rights will blend in on a completely national level at some point. It will just take a little while, maybe a civil war or two. But generally less people are giving a fuck, and when you get down to it, people's problems with gays to begin with are usually religion based.

Annnd constitutionally that isn't even a valid reason. So everyone'll come around eventually. Sure, there will be bigots but it's the same for black people. They're considered equals now, it just took time & work.

 

What's so great about this news? Yay, gay people have edged their way one tiny bit closer to being considered 'normal' by society.

It's patronizing if anything, I would drop trow and tell them to kiss my ass. Who wants to be part of a club of people who hate you, anyways?

 

Yea but see the problem is a lot of people want to get married, this includes gay people.

 

I know, it's stupid. It's out of traditions sake, that's all. And many people want the right just because they never had it before.

You don't need a piece of paper to love somebody. It's been said a million times over, and it's true. It's all personal preference, and I know no one wants to put a line between one group and another, but the reality is someone already had.

But, all in all, people can do whatever they like, i'm not going to preach to people like the church.

 

This may be true, but it doesn't really make a difference. Normal people don't want gays to be considered normal, gays want to be considered normal but at the same time are kind of backfiring that by claiming that they're different (some of them, anyway) but they want the rights to normal tradition.

It's a bit silly but they should at least have the right to be silly if they please.

you need a piece of paper to make decisions for your partner when they are in the hospital, some times just to visit them

and you need a piece of paper to keep your partner's relatives from stealing all your shit if your partner dies

 

Yeah, again, that's down to a legal system

not matters of the heart. You are basically saying that the reason one legal procedure is necessary is to you can withstand another, thus defeating the purpose of your point.

 

If people want to marry, let them. Be it for love or legal reasons. They don't have to all follow your or anyone else's opinion of things.

And I don't really believe in the 'sanctuary of marriage', is all. I did, until my friends recently announced that divorce half a year after I attended their wedding.

 

I don't particularly feel that people need to marry. But, if someone told me I couldn't, I'd probably want it more just because of that.
