Each flip flop was next to the corresponding foot, and the security guard came over and made me put them on!! As if I'm causing a problem from over in the corner as far away from others as I can be, doing some programming. Some people must have no other purpose in life.

In China they probably would have cut your feet off and threw you into jail.
When are you moving there anyway?

Such vitriol for a simple post! I guess it can not be assumed that certain people will behave in a responsible and civilized manner.

    Oh well. :p

    Kia Ora Ni Hao!

I have no doubt that certain people will try to turn this into a fight thread for whatever reason they may have, and I won't dance a haka over it (Kiwi slang). However, I have posted earlier that I have personally seen on more than one occasion people ENTERING the library barefoot and going about their business as usual. It was a bit worrisome that I went out and bought a pair of flip flops just to be in compliance with the rules and I get talked to, yet there are many people who walk in barefoot with no problem. If you are so offended that I would bring up that simple little point, please go to another thread, as I will not entertain any vitriol or off topic posts here.

    Cheers!

...And my shoes were next to / partially underneath my feet. Not even all the way off. But my shoes were more "next to" than "under" my feet.

    Cheers!

Like any other place, it's probably one persons hang up and not the library. I'm always barefoot in the one in my town....no problems. The one the next town over is very uptight. But I have run in there barefoot to return books and make a quick run of the new section and gotten away with it, but I think its more because no one was paying attention.

    Frankly, grow up.
No barefeet rules are there for a reason and if I had my own business open to the public I also would enforce such a policy.
    Why?
Not to pick on you poor barefoot people, but to protect my ass from litigation from morons who drop shit on thier foot and try to sue. That is the main reason most places have rules about being barefoot in thier place of business.
Quite taking it so fucking personal.

It's a public library. You should know better. I'm sure you knew that being barefoot inside any building isn't taken very well. And it's not like flip flops are that restrictive to your feet, you could have just left them on. When inside a place that isn't yours you have to respect the wishes of those who run it. My guess is you wouldn't take them off in a grocery store.

How would a flip flop or other type of sandal make this any different? Yet, no one has any problem with them.

Don't bother with logic, the idiots are out. Is it a full moon or is there a moon phase that affects shoe police?

carpet :smells like stinky feet, due to the large number of shoeless people, getting foot oils on the carpet... what everyone wants to smell at the library..

This is often encountered with people that wear shoes then take them off, Less likely with people that never wear shoes at all..

Nope, must just be that people respect others wishes and don't like smelly carpets.

Make your own library, open to barefooters.

I also find, that society's laws are too restrictive. I'm not going to protest it by taking off my shirt in the mall though..
