Looking at using 2 sets of 6ft twin tubes (840 daylight tubes) 24hours for the veg stage of my grow .Just trying to keep the cost down , will these be ok .For the second stage flower they will go back to the 600w sodium light 12/12 Will this set up be ok and still bring in a good yeild
Flouros are fine for small plants, but lack the intensity. Personally, I think that cutting back on wattage is false economy. Consider that a 1000w lamp runs the electric bill up about 45/month. Now consider the value of the harvest, the amount of investment in the grow, the personal legal risk, and price of two sets of lighting. It might say you $50 bucks, but if it costs you even an eighth in final yeild, it was not worth it.
Flourescent bulbs are only a good option for plants up to 6 or 8" tall (rooting clones/starting seedlings) or when your grow space just cant accommodate an HID because if height limitations (despite tying down your plants or using the screen method) This is mostly because of the low light intensity. Flourescents just cant deliver the light more than a couple inches into the canopy, starving the rest of the plant for light.
